I record using DVD+R and also have compatability problems but I'm more like 5% of the time. I've found I have less compatability problems with brand name media like TDK and Sony. Try different brands of media and see if that helps any.

I use Office Depot and Fuji.....It's just weird that they all work when played back on my computer and the other two DVD players.

I use Ritek Ridata, and have not had a single problem with 3 dvd players. Also the DVD-R is a much more compatable disc. And should have less problems. Highly suggest you try DVD-R

Try 'Taiyo Yuden' disc's. I've had 100% success rate with them.

cheers:)

Oh, here is a good place to see if there are compatability issues with certain media and certain dvd players. http://www.videohelp.com/

The bad thing with Taiyo Yuden's are, since they are not marked they have a tendency to be forged, lot of fakes. Also they are the most expensive disc. Good but expensive. I have had 100% succes on the 3 dvd players (actually 4) with Ritek's. Mine, mothers, stepfathers, my back-up dvd player.

Oh, another thing. It might be a good idea to stay away from the unlabeled brands like Office Depot and specially CompUSA. The CompUSA discs, that I tried were cheap Princo discs, and I had about a 5% succes ratio. Use the program DVD Identifier, to get the actual manufactures code from the disc. To make sure you are using quality discs...

Thats my 2.

Curious what burner are you using. This as well could be a slight problem. The 2 Plextor's (PX-716A & PX-712A) that I use have major problems with Princo. However not a single problem with true Taiyo Yuden or Ritek's

I used to use Ritek GO4 DVD-R, they were the best until their quality dropped(something about Ritek changing their manufacturing plant). My denon 2200 is picky about read/transfer rates and started choking along with a number of other players including PS2's. Computer drives are more forgiving about poor read/transfer rates as they read much faster than players and have larger buffering.

I've burnt over 2000 TY DVD-R, and the've been played in at least 50 different players flawlessly not one skip during playback. Also the read/transfer rate is much better without any drops or poorly read sectors.

Many others have had the same problem with ritek and since changed to TY. Search here , it is a great site for info and help.

I buy from a wholesaler who purchases direct from Taiyo Yuden. Just make sure you purchase from a reputible company(not the local sunday market) and you should be fine.

Having said all that, what works for my setup may not work on yours.

cheers:)

.....guys, I buy 100 Memorex 700mb 80 minute CD-R's at Sam's for about 24 bucks and 100 cases for about 13....tax makes it right at 40....is this acceptable?....are you guys now lying on the floor laughing?, haha.....I have a CD from quartet days, that I am trying to send to every nursing home in Arkansas.....

.....edit....the CD is best used right after meals to promote the patrons of the home to get up and go outside to walk off the meal.....
mulester are you asking for an opinion??? I actually use the Fugi CD-R's over the Riteks, I have found them a much better quality when error check is run on them after a burn.

However just the opposite with DVD-R, I find the Riteks with ever so minimal errors with a disc check.....

Granted ALL should know that ALL!!!!! Discs will have some errors. Even factory pressed discs. This is normal for PIE Parity Inner Errors, However NO POE (outer errors are acceptable)....

That being the case, you may want to try the HP DVD-R discs. However I did find them to be junk. But each burner has a recommended media list. Certainly the HP would recommend their own discs.

BTW, I have burnt about 3,800+ Riteks. And only about 5 coasters from those. (Power outages before I got Tripp-Lite power backup)

I have burnt well over 12,000+ discs But not all dvd's. I have tried about 20-25 different brands. So I speak from a novice point of view.....

Not sure about locally, I have always bought them online. And it would certainly be cheaper that route. 35.00 for 100 Excellent quality discs. At the link I posted in the above post. If you do not buy online, then I really could not say. You could ask CompUSA/Circuit City if they could order you some, but if they did, they certainly would give about a 60% markup.

I will check tomorrow and if I can't find them locally and in stock I will just order them online for $35.....Thanks again for your insight.

The company I posted is very reputable. I have bought about 2500 of those discs from them. I have just started trying the 8X Riteks. But I find the Purple Pack 4X have the least errors. The quality control issues the other poster was speaking of, is more than likely the Bulk packs (usually red color packs) and these are of different quality and most have a different manufacturing code. So stay away from the bulk packs, usually this is the case with most brands. The have the least quality control on those discs....

Hope all of this has steered you into a correct direction. Remember I am a novice due to the fact I have only used about 20-25 brands. Others have used 100 brands and search for the best media at the best price. I had stopped at Riteks, for the price and quality. There are better ones, but at 4xplus times the price of these. You could try the G05's if you want to burn a little faster, But even these I burn at 4x.......

The Tayio's I used did burn at 16x. But then quality burns were starting to become an issue. You should try an error check program after a burn. You will not need to do this with the whole 100 pack. Just a few, the rest will be the same as long as they were burnt under the same conditions. (Speed, running programs, etc..)

Also some good advice would be not to Burn on The Fly, specially with a laptop. It is better to put the file in a temp folder, to complete a dvd structure. I have tried both ways, and had only about a 85% success ratio with burn at once, or burn on the fly (they are a little different, but similar) When I have created a structure first, I have about a 99.9% success ratio.
