DTS-HD MA & TrueHD Bitstream via ATI HD 5870 Video Card

I have a 5750, PowerDVD 9.0 Ultra fully patched, and an Onkyo HD receiver. Bad news, there is currently no option to bit-stream Hi-def audio to external device, we are still waiting for a "patch" from cyberlink, see this forum post on Cyberlink's website:

This "patch" from cyberlink was supposed to be out a month ago. Also, with the latest patch, as noted in the link above, cyberlink has effectively broken regular DTS and DD 5.1 bitstreaming. Any luck with any of you guys on this?
Are you using Vista or W7?

Vista Ultimate 32bit
That OS should be good.

I guess we just have to be patient and wait a little bit.

To take advantage of the 5870's bitstreaming support I had to use a pre-release version of Cyberlink's PowerDVD 9. The public version of the software should be out in another week or so. To enable TrueHD/DTS-HD MA bitstreaming you have to select the "Non-decoded high-definition audio to external device" option in the audio settings panel...

Right, and that option doesn't exist w/in Cyberlink's software as of yet. Also the 5xxx series ATI cards are not on their list of supported sound cards either (YET)...

How long to wait?? :D

So you guys are saying I have to download powerdvd to be able to bitstream over hdmi?
Only the new 5000 series Radeon cards will be able to bitstream via PowerDVD, but not until the patch is released on the 27th of this month. But you can still get 7.1 PCM via the HDMI on that card using either PowerDVD or Arcsoft Total Media Theater 3.

Aah, I see. Thanks for the info!

So, is powerdvd 9 bundled with the current 5xxx cards or is it a separate purchase. I'm still weighing the options between PS3, cheap bluray player or HTPC based player.

The original plan was through the HTPC, but I have been waiting 2 years now for what I originally thought would take 6 months to release.

Also, what are the load times like with powerdvd? This still seems to be an issue with some of the stand alone players.

I just setup a HTPC last week, running on Sapphire ati radeon 5750 GPU card and Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 CPU with powerdvd9 ultra. So far tested with DVD playback and my receiver able to display the DD or DTS with 5.1 channel.

Plan to get a BD drive to play BD disk as my PS3 doesn't support True HD or DTS HD-MA bitstream to my AVR receiver.

To give a trial before getting the BD drive, i played the m2ts file and unfortunately the bitstream is not working (with HDMI). I will give it a try again after install the latest patch which is expected to release this 27th Nov. Prior to this, anyone here has successfully bitstream the HD-MA and trueHD to receiver?

With just the 5xxx Radeon cards and without the Asus Xonar HDAV1.3?

No.

I have used the Asus Xonar card and bitstreamed TrueHD & DTS-HD MA to my receiver. But I don't think anyone here has been able to bitstream them yet with just the new Radeon cards. Everyone is waiting for that Nov 27th date as well.

I have also heard that the update for PowerDVD will be out on the 20th, either way I'm excited to see how this works for the people that already have a 5000 series radeon. I just hope it doesn't take Arcsoft too long to release a patch for TMT 3 that also allows bitstreaming.

The new Slim PS3 is able to bitstream the new HD codecs, so if it's that big of a deal to have bitstream over PCM, you can always upgrade your PS3.

Have you tried installing any of the PDVD patches?

I installed 2 of the PDVD9 patches, and it screwed everything up for me.

I had to completely reformat my HDD and reinstall the Vista OS.

Now my PDVD9 is working perfectly again.

I'm kind of scared of these so-called "patches".:D

Yes, I installed what I believe is the most recent patch since I had to in order to play a newer disc but it still works fine. Hopefully the upcoming patch will fix all the issues an work well.

Load times on all 3 of my pc's has been very fast, and that includes a 3.0 ghz. pentium d, 2.2 ghz. core 2 duo, and a 2.66 ghz core i7, but all the blu rays have been .iso files not the actual disc.

I mount the .iso with daemon-tools, and play with either PowerDVD, or Total Media Theater 3.
