Just saw the headline. War criminal? I dunno, but they got Saddam. If he was than I should hate him more but oddly not as much as Trump. I thought a little bit of that was because Dubya had a vendetta for Saddam because he tried to have Sr. killed. Right or wrong. How that might have translated to the Middle East problems I'm sure someone can expand upon that better than I.

Ah well. R.I.P.

Well, you could hate him a bit less? ;)
Getting Saddam was a huge mistake as he had Iran mostly under control and most likely we would not have Iran's insurgents active in Iraq and other places?
Yes, indeed he and his family were really bad, especially his son/s?
ps. just to be clear, last line is about Saddam too.

Just saw that on the fake news media. That's the thing, Everyone that is born today Will All die! No one gets out alive! From the very wealthy to the very poor to the very rich and famous the very powerful. All end up just like everyone else Dead!

I think you missed the point of the sons. By then I was talking about Saddam and family. Or, I didn't write it correctly?

You surly don't mean that Oil War to protect America's interest the patronum industry in the Middle East. Let's not forget how USA protects Saudi Arabia's interest. He seems relatively benign today, in light of the absolute corruption of the Trump administration, but Rumsfeld was arrogant as well as cavalier about the idea of human rights. It was very costly to the US in nearly every way, human cost, money, and international standing. He was a 'neocon' so at least he believed in something as opposed to Trump and his circle which are very nearly nihilistic. The 'neocon' objective was ultimately to spread democracy to the middle east. In my eyes that isn't such a bad thing but the way they attempted it was arrogant and consequently disastrous. Errol Morris made an interesting documentary (as he always does) about Rumsfeld called 'The Uknown Known' which is streaming on Netflix.

By the way, I never bought into the notion that the invasion of Iraq had anything to do with oil. It was a foolhardy mission of idealism if you ask me.

Saddam went after Kuwait for the resources. If he would have succeeded he would have went after Saudi Arabia next for the resources. Yes Saddam was a dictator..

Ah got it. I've never really understood the Middle East. Who to give arms to, who not to. The different factions. The 1000 year war. Seems damned if you do, damned if you don't. Etc.

You got it bro! They been fighting a thousand year war probably more than that let's say 2000 or more for the resources. That'll more than likely never end or will bring the whole World down over them sand piles of land.
 
I like James take on his view of that mess. That was the ultimate twist democracy but like James posted failed miserably! That area isn't any more stable than before.

Right. They don't have anything to show for it.

I thought they were going after Saddam pre-9/11. It was used as catalyst to enter. Trying to link Saddam with al Qaeda and so forth. It got silly when Bush supporters stood outside his ranch in 2011 giving him credit for nabbing Bin Laden when there's a video of Bush saying on air they thought UBL wasn't the threat Saddam was because they didn't have the reach/infrastructure of some of these larger evils. So they never followed through and headed to the Middle East. UBL wasn't this giant billionaire. He'd been given safe harbor and had been largely cut off from fortunes because he was a terrorist. Besides 9/11, I'd thought his greatest accomplishment was having all these little terrorist cells across the globe. Sadly. 9/11 was an ingenious plot, but I think the total operation cost came to $1 million. I remember LOL hearing intel/politicians saying it wasn't this sophisticated plot. Yet it succeeded so it must have been pretty sophisticated. More of a having to respect your enemies POV.

Well, with that said in your post your pretty much spot on. Let's not forget Afghanistan that 20 plus year war with American soldiers lives lost basically fighting a country controlled by drug lords that's been controlled for thousands of years. I'm sure you have read how rich in resources Afghanistan has that's been untapped. Two of the World's most powerful Nations have tried and failed measurably fighting a so called War for democracy or socialism like Russia tried. Neither of the two countries really tried full out war like say WWll where millons of soldiers where lost. They can't, why? Nuclear weapons. China, Russia and another dictatorships aren't going to sit by and watch the United States take over a country in their neck of the woods. When Russia was trying to take over that country who was supplying the weapons United States. Well reverse that role and Russia and China started supplying weapons and supplies to the tribes drug lords. Arms dealers love those kinds of little wars. The war machine is laughing all the way to the bank.
