ive noticed when i watch ANYTHING from sitcoms to movies on HDNMV (hidef movie network) i only get FL,FR,C, no sub.. when on Dolby Pro Logic when i change it to direct i only get FL,FR, no sub

why is this?

btw i have the dish 622 connected optically to my onkyo ds777

ive got a free PPV movie but i dont want to use it because to me it would be a waste to watch a movie without the audio experience...

Does your setup work properly if you watch DVDs?
Can the Sat box be instructed to different digital audio modes? Have you asked the Sat co if that channel passes DD5.1?

I have the Dish VIP 722 DVR and there is a setting in "Preferences" for audio output options. I don't remember specifically but I can look at it later tonight.

there is a dolby digital menu where you can select DD/PCM, DD only, PCM only.. it was set on PCM only, i changed it to DD/PCM.. and then i can select line mode or RF mode... not sure what to set that on but its on RF mode

I just checked and mine was set to "DD/PCM" and "RF Mode". As far as the difference between RF and line mode, I found THIS page. It appears that RF mode applies some sort of dynamic range compression. I changed mine to line mode but haven't listened to anything enough to see if it made any difference.
