I'm currently using the TACT TCS MKII with a Parasound A51. I was considering picking up one of the TACT S2150 digital amps to see if I want to go to an all digital setup.

Anyone have any experience with digital amplifiers or insight on their pros/cons?

If you do a heard for the Harman/Karodon DPR series of amps you can find a lot of information.

In this post I discuss how digital amplifiers actually work and what makes them tick.

There have been some very mixed reviews though of digital amps in general. Look around and you'll dig up some good threads. :)

Slee, I'm not familiar with the Tact but I've read a few good articles about the NuForce amps. I'm interested in what you end up with and your thoughts. The digital amps seem to be getting a lot better. Check out the reference 9.

I am not so sure that a Class D amp does accept digital signals as input. Which digital output on the receiver or preamp would it come from?

I'm not sure about other digital amps, but the TACT digital amps receive digital inputs through AES and SPDIF via the discrete digital outputs of the TCS MKII. The TCS MKII has 10 available discrete digital output channels.

Looks pretty cool, but I'll probably end up going with either the 4 TACT S2150or a TACT BOZ 216/2200 setup with 6 modules to use witht he TACt TCS MKII. I might check out the CIA D200s for my 2 channel RCS2.2.x. I'm assuming they will be much cheaper than the $16K price tag a full TACT BOZ setup will cost.

about eight times less. I hope that does not make them seem less cool to you. They are top end amps at any price.

No, I'm sure they are very good and will work fine in my 2.2 channel setup. The TACT amps are very advanced in that they have DSP working in 32bit
floating point, dynamic room correction, advanced crossovers and a host of other features. I think when it comes to my HT setup, going an all TACt route would probably work best.

Thanks. So this is then so designed to act as a pair of components.

The TACT TCS MKII is definitely ideally paired with the TACT S2150x or the new TACT BOZ 216/2200, however you can use any digital amp with the TCS MKII. The TCS MKII provides room correction and crossover adjustments that can also be used in a regular power amp setup , however, when paired with the S2150x or the BOZ 216/2200, you can do multiple advanced crossover adjustments at the amp and take advantage of other features.

The TCS MKII is definitely my favorite piece of gear. Discrete digital outputs are great, but even when coupled with my Parasound A51 via single ended analog outputs, the results are nothing short of amazing... one of the few cases where I have no reservation saying that the audible differences are stunning (unless you already have a perfect room).

Are you driving the Epiphany's that way?
I'm driving the Epiphany's and Merlin TSM MX's with the TACT RCS 2.2x in a 2.1 setup. I might go digital there, but I'm currently using a Meridian G57 amp and Velodyne DD-15 with the crossover set at 80.

The Epiphany's are great, but I actually prefer something more simple for the HT. I'm currently running an all Onix Ref. 3 setup, but will soon switch to 5 Ref. 4s and 2 Ref. 3s in a 7.1 setup. I'm very happy with the Ref.s, but I eventually want to get some speakers I can use in a true bi or tri amp setup by fully utilizng the crossover options available in TACT's digital amps and the TCS MKII.
