I've been thinking about getting a cool running amp and came upon a sunfire 300x2.I could'nt help myself and bought it.Now i'm having second thoughts that maybe it's an overkill.I also didnt realize that it doesnt have an on/off power switch what's up with that?I always heard that sunfire amps are very cool running and considering the price i got it for i had to grab it,but should i have is the question. Is this amp an overkill for me.My speakers are 4ohm 90 db,using a rotel rsx1056.Do i keep it or sell it?help please.

It isn't overkill. Certainly more powerful that your previous amplifier though.:D

can i ask this being that the amp is only 2 channel i'm assuming once it's hooked up i just recalibrate all my speakers agian. Will the front 2 that's being driven by the amp have a significant effect when in 5ch or when watching HT.In other words will the sound be off since the fronts are being driven by the amp.Should i have been better off with a 5 ch amp.

You will be fine, you may need to level match. Do you have an SPL meter?

Yes that's what i'll be using when i recalibrate.FWIW i've never had or used an external amp.

Ha, you forgot you had equipment. You are a bad audiophile JK.:D

The Sunfire should handle your speakers better at higher SPLs (better impedance tolerance). As far as it sounding different or not matching the system it should sound fine assuming that you leave the switch on the amp (if it has one) that makes it sound similar to a tube amp off it will match the system fine.

That's my other dilemna the amp has no on/off switch but does have 12v trigger. It also has an auto on whatever that means.Sorry i dont have the manual yet.

It has a power save mode, sort of like a subwoofer. The amplifier shuts off and remains in auto-detect. Once it detects a signal it turns back on. There is no need for the trigger.

Yes, after it doesn't recieve a signal for about 15-30 minutes it will go into power save mode.
