Did I jump on the Blu-ray bandwagon too early?

I just realized that my brand spanking new Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD is profile 1.0 only according to the latest news. What makes me more angry though is the unit will only bitstream DTS-MA in 5.1 (the unit does not internally decode DTS-MA so converting to LPCM still only yields max output of 5.1). I became suspicious of this last week when I popped in Pan's Labyrinth and the input lights on my 3808 only registered 5.1 when the movie played. When you initially pop in the disc however, the New Line Cinema teaser will light up as 7.1 input but it most certainly is DTS-HD High Resolution Audio. Some of you who are reading this must think I am crying over spilt milk but hear me out. On Pioneer's own website it states: "The players [95FD] advanced HDMI 1.3a output supports bitstream output of all advanced audio formats including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. The BDP-95FD Blu-ray Disc player doesn’t compromise a thing when it comes to high-definition picture and audio." However, the only documentation you will find that the unit doesn't support DTS-MA 7.1 is on page 44 of the manual. Apparently complete disclosure of the unit's specs is the only thing Pioneer compromised on with this so called "Elite" player . What happens to the discrete
SB information, is it ignored? Or is it matrixed somehow?
I consider myself reasonably informed about this hobby of ours and this has really caught me off guard. Even putting 50% of the blame on me for not being more thoroughly educated on my purchase still leaves me pissed off that other consumers of this unit might also be caught out. Buyer beware.
From the DTS website: "DTS-HD Master Audio is capable of delivering audio that is a bit-for-bit identical to the studio master. DTS-HD Master Audio delivers audio at super high variable bit rates -24.5 mega-bits per second (Mbps) on Blu-ray discs and 18.0 Mbps on HD-DVD - that are significantly higher than standard DVDs . This bit stream is so "fast" and the transfer rate is so "high" that it can deliver the Holy Grail of audio: 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depths that are identical to the original. With DTS-HD Master Audio, you will be able to experience movies and music, exactly as the artist intended: clear, pure, and uncompromised.

Spilt milk?? I would be way pissed and they would be giving me a new player. False advertising. It will take some work but they are in the wrong.

Yeah, I'd be miffed if it were a $100.00 A2 or $200.00 A3. A $1,000.00 Elite? If there was misrepresentation on the brochure and it doesn't perform as expected...well, I don't know if a $500.00 rebate would sit well with me. It's a justified beef Chukker...at any price!

Regarding the profile- doesn't the 95F have a ethernet port on the back? Pretty sure that the profile can easily be upgraded once a patch is released. IS that frustrating- yes, but honestly I haven't really seen much of a difference btwn version 1.0 and 1.1 on my PS3- I'm not even really sure if I'd take advantage of the improvements.

Regarding DTS MA- I did a quick internet search and found this link- http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=25776. It seems like there are generally problems with DTS MA decoding by ALL BD players and receivers, and depending on the disc 7.1 sound is not being output. This seems like more of a problem with DTS codecs than with any particular player.

I love my old sturdy BDP-S300. Firmware is a snap, and Sony even emails me when their is a new one out. Download an ISO image, burn it, stick it in the player, and 5 min. later your done :p

Sturdy? That player doesn't even handle any lossless audio codecs or bitstream them.

You didn't jump in too early, you just picked up the wrong player. If it doesn't do what they said it does and you aren't happy, tell the store you want a different player or your money back. Yes, DTS-HD MA seems to be a pretty significant problem for a lot of hardware.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate you all taking the time. I just got off the phone with Pioneer tech support and no this model will not be upgradeable via firmware to deal with the DTS-MA 7.1 issue nor will it be able to upgrade to profile 1.1 or better. Apparently it does not have the memory architecture to support these features. Thankfully, Magnolia A/V has agreed to swap out the unit no questions asked for the new Denon 2500 BD Player; I'm on the way down there right now with Pan's Labyrinth and Shoot 'em Up in hand to make sure it's DTS-MA 7.1 compatible. I no longer trust posted specs on manufacturer's websites so I will post what impressions I have of this unit when I return home later tonight. Cheers.

Good Lord, at this point I wish someone would just tell me which player to buy -- I am at wits end as to what to do.
Upside: Magnolia A/V loves me (when I walk through the door they come running as if I was at Les Schwab Tire Center :D); they let me take home the Denon BD 2500 BCTI to play with until Friday no questions asked.
Downside: I am basically a beta tester in regards to the feature set of this product they are selling.
I would much prefer a straight answer about $1000.00 equipment.

Good news -- the Denon unit is very well built and beefy weighing in at a good 5.5 lbs heavier than the Pioneer Elite unit:

Bad news -- this unit does not bitstream DTS-MA in 7.1 either.
In fact, no matter what I did in the set up menu I could not get the Denon to shake hands with my Samsung display and I could "only" get it to output 1080p/60f unlike the Pioneer Elite unit which quickly and accurately detected both the 24f source material and the tv's ability to display at that refresh rate.
In addition, I could not get the Denon to output the entire DTS-MA bitstream either. Here is a pic of the 3808 receiving a 7.1 DTS-MA input during the New Line Teaser when the disc (both Pan's Labyrinth and Shoot 'em Up) is first booted up (sorry so blurry):

However, when the actual movie is playing, the 3808 is clearly only being input a 5.1 signal (again, sorry so blurry):

I don't know what else to do except ask the advice of the only ones I trust: you.
What player should I be interested in?

I am lucky enough to be dealing with Magnolia A/V here in Seattle; they have offered to do whatever it takes to keep my business -- even if that means swapping out my current player no questions asked 2 months down the road. The Pioneer tech I spoke to on the phone today reassured me that their new player out later this month can bitstream 7.1 DTS-MA, but I just don't trust these @$$holes anymore.
I don't give a rats @$$ about PIP director commentary or any other of the BS feature sets that profile 1.1 or 2.0 have to offer, I just want a functional BD player that supports all of the lossless audio codecs the way these @$$holes promised when they came up with this technology in the first place.
Is that too much to ask?

A footnote -- I just received an email from Pioneer customer support directing me to a thread concerning this issue: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=25776
If I have wrongly accused Pioneer and Denon I stand corrected; perhaps my vehement disdain should be directed at the disc authors, or the studios -- who knows? All I know is that I have blown $32 USD + tax per disc each on Pan's Labyrinth and Shoot 'em Up; the primary purchase impetus being the DTS-MA 7.1 soundtrack. As I look at it, they are all in bed together and should get together to resolve this or at least be aware of the problem -- it's not like the consumer needs any more confusion to add to this BS format war/HDMI connectivity problem.
