I'm having second and third thoughts about the purchase and am going to try and cancel the Cable portion. Plus the Floorstanders are Transmission Line speakers and the bookshelf are not. The bookshelf and center are rear ported and from a synergy point this does not make sense to me re: timmbre and voice matching.

Plus - because the Center channel speaker is rear ported I can't put it inside the BDI Meriden 8127 A/V furniture I picked out.

I don't know what to do.

I may try and cancel ebtire order or just a portion.

the tweeter is the same on the jrs, so i believe timbre matching shouldnt be an issue. As for the rear facing port you should have enough room in the furniture, and shouldnt be an issue.

return the cables:eek:

I backed out of entire deal. Cables way too expensive. FS are TL and CC are not. Too many variables. Main thing I felt really bad Buyers Remorse. Back to square one.....

Going to print out thread and read tonight.

Greetings,

A more lengthy reply:

First - thank you for the kick in the head I deserved. I just got caught up in the excitement of finally buying something. The downside was that I should have had someone with me that knew Audio because everything sounded good on the painkillers for my burns, back, etc. I was really stupid, acted rashly and not responsibly, and feel I let you guys down who have been offering good advice from the very start of my joining the community. I'm sorry.

I am a fortunate man and the Adagio seller a man of integrity. He did not charge my credit card and canceled sale. He said that when I am ready to commit he will sell me just the front Adagio floorstanders, all speakers, no cable - whatever I decide on.

Since I read a link on the importance of timbre matching in HT I am not sure on having Transmission Line Front speakers and different designed CC and rears.

To save money I am not buying the Pioneer Elite KURO or non-elite version. I am waiting for May and buying the THX certified Panasonic Z800U in either 46" or 50" models. The prices I was quoted by an internet dealer with free shipping are fantastic. The pre-buzz on the TV's is spectacular. I will save thousands.

I am so relieved that I got out of the Adagio deal and cable mistake.
Tonight, I will post again. I am going to print out this thread and see what is helpful information. By now you realize that I want to put the bulk of my cash into GREAT sounding speakers for MUSIC first and HT second.

This time around - I will listen and am not going to any other forums - just this one. They all wished me "the best" and did not question my stupidity. I'll take honesty over cordiality any day when it comes to investing money.

Your Grateful Friend,
All Ears Now,

Eddie

I'm coming in very late on this whole thread. But after reading about your interest in those Acoustic Zen Adagios and your subsequent backing out, I want to introduce you to another similar design speaker that is perhaps much less expensive, the Salk SongTower. The SongTowers are now $1500 a pair, but the price is soon going to go up by what is expected to be $300 a pair. What was your price for the Adagio towers?

I've had a pair of SongTowers since September. I posted my impressions here.

I wouldn't worry about using TL design speakers as your mains and smaller ported or sealed center and surround speakers. In fact, I think you ought to seek out TL speakers. They are superior in many ways. The timbre of a speaker comes mainly from the upper midrange where the midwoofer crosses over to the tweeter. TL cabinets affect primarily the bass.

plasma / lcd...

If you like the effect the more glossy plasma type screens have you may want to check out the Samsung LNT4665F <-- actually, that's the 46" model but I'm sure you can figure out what the larger comparible units are called.

This is an LCD with a gloss-ish finished screen. I actually bought the Samsung LNT4661F a couple weeks ago - same thing but with the matt screen because I have alot of windows in viewing room.

I've been very happy with the screen and prefer it to everything I have the chance to compare it too.

Let me just say, if it hasn't been said already, that the OP has a cynical sense of irony judging by his username.

Biggiesized,

Nice of you to notice.

It means:

I'm fired up in a good way to be purchasing an all new system.

I'm fired up in a pissed off way that I lost so much stuff and got hurt - burns on arms.

Good catch!
