Guys;

I was running some of the Spears/Munsil Wedge tests at various cadences tonight and was shocked to find the A1 fail many of them. When I came to the 32322 test, not only did the A1 fail, but it locked the player up and spit garbled characters out even when I power cycled it. I had to unplug the player and plug it back it to get it to work again. This also happened when running the jaggie tests.

I went online and noticed a 40min firmware update. I am rerunning the tests tomorrow with fingers crossed that if fixes these issues I found.

In the meantime, I suggest everyone do the firmware update if you haven't already. I pinged Denon to see what this update is all about.

Very strange. Hopefully the update will correct the problem. I wonder if it's an isolated case with just your review player, or if it's all A1UD's?

I am very curious to what you find out after the update.

Same here, mine is current as well. And like you, I also updated mine right after I received it. So most likely it's the July update.

Apparently I had old firmware. The player no longer locks up with these tests but it still fails a few of the cadences mostly dealing with still motion video photography. Not a biggie but interesting to note.

I also think its interesting that I am using the Oppo Player as the benchmark in this comparison since it passes every video test I've thrown at it :)

Glad to hear that the new firmware corrected the issues (at least most of them).:) Like you mentioned, the tests mostly dealing with still motion video photography aren't a biggie, but good to know nonetheless.

Yeah as far as bench test results, it is something that the Oppo passed all the tests while the Denon didn't. I look forward to your "real world" test results of the A1UDCI using actual movie clips. By just letting my eye be the judge, the A1UDCI has a richness and dimensionality to the picture that none of my other Blu-ray player have.

Issue with LPCM LFE on Blu-ray's

After installing the latest firmware update I have noticed that when playing Blu-ray's with Uncompressed PCM, the LFE output is almost non existent. Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA LFE are fine but not Uncompressed PCM LFE.

Can any A1UD/A1UDCI owner here who has installed the latest firmware confirm that there is a lack of LFE on Uncompressed PCM Blu-ray's?

I know that Uncompressed PCM is not really being used much anymore on Blu-ray's, but a lot of early Blu-ray's have Uncompressed PCM as the only lossless option. I own 47 Blu-ray's with Uncompressed PCM and am disappointed now that my A1UDCI cannot play the LFE on them.

If enough A1UD/A1UDCI owners can confirm that the LFE on Blu-ray's with Uncompressed PCM is very weak now after the newest update, we have a better chance of Denon offering a fix soon.

Since no one has replied, I'm guessing that either no A1UD owner has updated to the newest firmware or the ones that have have not played any Blu-ray's with Uncompressed PCM to confirm this issue.

If any A1UD/A1UDCI owner has updated to the newest firmware, can you check how the LFE is on Blu-ray's with Uncompressed PCM? Thanks.
