When I set the receiver to LFE+main, and set the receiver to subwoofer, I'm not getting any bass on the front speakers. As soon as I return the setting to no subwoofer, bass is normal on the fronts. I really don't have a sub to work with at this time.
LFE+Main is for when you have a sub.
Thank you Peng, greatly appreciated. Actually, it's a big pain that receiver suppliers no longer provide a hard copy owners manual. I don't know about other folks, but I would have gladly paid an extra 50 bucks for one.
You can print one out for less than $50 :) altho ya better have a pretty hefty paper supply...it's 337 pages! I prefer the pdf, easier to search/use. How many guys even read the manual, too?

To print out a copy on my printer would cost a fortune in ink. (I'm not even sure the printer would survive) It's an HP inkjet. A laser printer would certainly be nice to have in this case.

There's that, too! The whole cartridge thing.... Then again I'm a laptop guy. I've even reviewed manuals on a phone as necessary. While I still do a lot of things in print, and keep any printed manuals I get with anything, I find the receiver manuals much easier to use with a pdf search. YMMV.

This Denon receiver is incredibly complex. It is highly doubtful that anyone new to the audio world would know where to begin. I know I have a friend or two that wouldn't have a prayer. I don't think there are many wives that would care to mess with such a thing.

That's what I was referring to when I said how many people use them at all? I'm weird, I read the manual before I buy the unit. I'll even help you read yours, LOL! :)

As soon as you get your subwoofer, we (at least HD and I so far:D) will help you read the manual. You don't need to print all the pages either, just a couple pages that you need to do your specific connections should suffice. If you have a smart phone, then its easy, obviously.

What kind of sub you have in mind? If you feel your towers are so capable already, you may want to consider subs that can go an octave or two lower than your towers.

I thank you for the offer of assist but I shouldn't have any problem. My original question was simply to make sure that both my towers and any added subwoofers would all work. The manual isn't really very clear on this. I don't know what sub I will be ordering right now. I'm not looking to knock the house down. I was just wanting to add a little more punch at lower volumes.
