Denon 2313 with Infinity Primus

Hello.

I have two P363 Infinity Primus fronts and one P163 bookshelf speaker. Haven't heard them yet but they fit my budget and are suppose to be good. I'm thinking of getting three more P163s along with the PC351 center and considering two BIC F12s for Audyssey DSX setup with the Denon AVR-2313 receiver to create 7.2. Any comments on this configuration? Will the P163 for surrounds be better than the P153? And should the P163 be good for the wide channels? Thanks.

The p163 are going to have a bit better bass extension than the p153. I would just swing for the p163 for wides and surrounds, since the price difference is so slight. It won't make a huge difference in sound, but the p163 will have an easier time of meeting the crossover point to the subwoofer. When I ran some test tones on the p163, I noticed it doesn't have a lot of energy below 70 hz, contrary to Infinity's claims of 49 hz, but since you are not likely to need much output below 80 hz, it likely won't make much of a difference.

That 49hz must be -6dB or -10dB, because I don't hear them getting low like that either. I could go either way on the 153 vs 163 for surrounds. I agree more extension will be a benefit, but not so much when crossed over that it would be a massive difference. The 163s are a pretty big bookshelf too.

According to Infinity, it's +/-3 db. That isn't what my ears are telling me though. I ought to run some sweeps with my SPL meter. Anyway, on it's sale price, the p163s are something like $86 and the p153s are typically $76, I think it's worth paying a extra for the larger woofer. And in the future, if you ever wanted to run the bookshelf speakers on a separate system, the p163s would sound a lot better if you were going to run them full range, like on a desktop or bedside system or something like that.

+/-3dB is a variance of 6dB and is highly generic, so it could very easily be -6dB at 49Hz. The realistic -3dB point is likely somewhere around 60Hz. I use a pair in my bedroom system. My mains are -3dB at 55Hz and they have more bass than the P163.

That may be why they struggled when I played them full range with some deep vocals at higher levels, but they were much better behaved when crossed at 80Hz.
