I've been looking to get a new DVD player for some time and think I'm ready to do so. I'd been spying the Denon 2910 for some time as a great unit with price-to-performance aspects. It has SACD and DVD-A as well as a rep of being a great DVD player, all for ~$500, depending on where you get it (i've been considering eBay and used). At any rate, I was poking around and notice the 1920 is now selling which also does DVD-A and SACD and is around $200 cheaper. Now, $200 isn't a ton of cash, but it's a nice chunk of change and I was wondering, does the 2910 justify the extra cabbage? I compared the 2 at Denon and the differences were minimum...the 2910 had "Noise Shaped Video - Interlace and Progressive" (whatever that means), as well as an 8MB buffer vs. 2MB on the 1920. Bass Management was the same on both units. They both offer Burr-Brown audio DAC's, though there is a difference: a PCM 1791 on the 2910; a PCM 1738 on the 1920. The 2910 has an HDCD decoder, but that factor makes no difference as my receiver (Marantz SR8400) has a built in HDCD decoder. The 2910 offers a Pure Direct mode. Also, the weight was significantly more on the 2910 (12.1 lbs vs. 6.4 lbs). But other than that, the players were pretty much the same. Which makes me wonder...is it the performance, specifically the video performance, that is the biggest difference bt. the 2? I don't know...just trying to make a purchase. If I can save $200, that'd be sweet...but at the same time, if the performance is significantly better, then I'd consider that $200 well spent. Anyone with any info/comparisons on these units? Thanks.
