Well the reason I was going to go full Def Tech was because of my brother's discount. My options are pretty much limited to whatever Best Buy carries. Klipsch, Def Tech, Mirage, Martin Logan, etc.

get the speakers that sound good to you. Check out sonus faber and monitor audio to get a balanced listen.

I see... in that case I would go for a supercube sub, or a Klipsh reference sub.

Do the Def Tech BiPolar towers require subwoofer inputs from the AVR?

If it requires a sub-in, how would I ever run two towers AND a subwoofer? Let alone just two towers? I know some receivers have two sub outs and that it's possible to get a splitter. Thoughts?

Set you speaker setting to large and you will get the subwoofer low end from just the speaker connection.

You have more control over the LFE signal, via the receiver, if you split the sub output to the towers in conjunction with the speaker connections (no sub). With a sub, just connect it to the sub out and run speaker connections only to the towers. A Denon 2808 would be a great receiver option. I would only consider the DT SuperCube I or better from their subs. But as others have said, it is wise to SAVE UP FOR A BETTER SUB, than to rely on your brother’s discount.

All the Yamaha receivers that I own or have owned have allowed the lfe channel to be set as Sub, Front, or Both. I forget what my parents Denon receivers lfe options are.

I know on my Denon 5910CI, if you use bass management instead of Source Direct, you can set the LFE to Subwoofer or NONE and then set the Fronts to Large. But I assume that you can only send LFE to either the Subwoofer or Fronts, not both. Source Direct sets every speaker to 20Hz-20kHz full range and send the LFE just to the Subwoofer output.

Yes, you can but I don't use it... but I can see how it may be a nice feature for certain setups.

Here is what I would do for my experience

Excellent. Would it be recommended to go 7006 towers with the ProSub 800/1000 or go with 7004 towers with NO sub? Can't seem to decide this.

Had older BP2006TL towers, moved them to another systems and upgraded to BP7002 towers. The bass comes from a 12" side woofer and is adjustable.

When it is turned up about 3/4 you start to feel noticable bass. When it is all the way you have substantial bass, although not quite the depth of a separate subwoofer.

I would recommend you get the biggest tower (lower number is bigger: 7000sc bigger than 7001SC bigger than 7002 bigger than 7004 bigger than 7006) you can afford.

In you case I would get the 7004 towers turn up the bass gain and save up for a subwoofer in the future.

My reasoning I replaced BP2006TLs ( previous generation to 7006 towers) with 7002 towers and have noticed a significant difference in sound depth and brilliance. I was originally going to get AV123 Rockets because of their good look. But after discussing on this forum I learned that deftech are very good quality speakers and thta upgrading within Def Tech was a better option. I am gald I listened. The new sound is incredible and I haven't even installed the new CLR3000 I have on order. I currently have the older ProCenter100 and even it, being Def Tech quality still sounds very good.

Just wait till you get the CLR3000, it will amaze you at how good it sounds. I was really surprised at how much difference the built in sub made.

I think the CLR3000 is basically the BP7000SC/7001SC, but only with a smaller subwoofer and no radiators.

What really amazes me is that Tom Nousaine/Sound & Vision measured the CLR3000 as very smooth from 28Hz-20kHz +/-3dB, and it's only 25" tall!

How can they get sound like that from such a relatively small 25" speaker?

There are speakers twice that size but that don't even come close to sounding as good. There are mass-market "subwoofers" that don't even come close to producing that kind of clean tight bass.

But really, the CLR3000 is kind of an overkill for a center speaker.

I mean the lowest human opera bass voice is about 60 Hz.

But I guess we like OVERKILL, don't we?

But since voices aren't the only sounds coming from the center channel, it's really not overkill, but yes, we love overkill, and there is no such thing as too much, only headroom
