For your edification, behold a link to some specs on these babies...

Now these amps have been known for failures. Not just this model, but seemingly all models with this integrated powered woof.

I have before me two choices, not limited to just two, but for arguments sake, two choices:

1) send in to DefTech for repair. They offered a nice deal. $300 dollars each speaker, includes shipping, they repair and send back along with a 1 year warranty.

2) Has anyone ever tried to get cute and try to bypass the internal amp. Make up or purchase a crossover network, bypassing this internal power amp nonsense. I can get an affordable class D amp to run each speaker, and call it a day. (I bet someone has tried this)

My reasons for trying option 2, is because how do I know their repair will last much more than a year?

Perhaps you guys will have other options. Be great to brainstorm this with you all, including the snarky trolls.. I can't wait to get a laugh out of their comments. Keep things nice, according to the forum rules.

There really is no option but to replace the amp. There is integration between woofer and mids. They were and are very unreliable speakers. Move on.

You’re running into the same issue I did within powered speakers. I just posted on another thread about the same issue with different speakers. It depends on how much you like the speaker. It‘s kind of like repairing an old car. Do you make the repairs and hope it’ll last or put the money into buying new. Or you can try fixing on your own. It’s your call.
