Definitive procinema 800 competitors

I am looking to buy a 5.1 set of speakers. Based on reviews, my most likely choice is currently the procinema 800 system. I haven't seen any negative reviews about them. My main concern is the high price, ideally I would like to spend a bit less.

The MSRP is $1200 but I have never seen them anywhere for cheaper. Is anyone aware of any authorized dealers who might sell them cheaper?

Does anyone have alternative suggestions at this price range or cheaper?

Is it worth looking at larger speakers for the same price? I will use them for movies and music (probably mostly movies). I live in an apartment and will probably place them all on stands.

Bose competes with the Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 800, however it does not do so favorably.

comparison with svs

Since I cannot listen to svs without ordering, I thought of looking at the specs and the definitive seem to be better. Or are the below specs not that important and it's mostly a matter of taste?
sensitivity: definitive 89 db, svs 85 db
recommended amp power: deifnitive up to 150 w, svs up to 120 w
freq response: definitive: 57 Hz – 30 kHz, svs: 68Hz - 20kHz ± 3dB
Also, the definitive are a lot smaller and lighter!

I know the svs are cheaper, but I'm really trying to get an idea how these specs will translate to practical differences.

Also, thanks to the suggestions for wall mount, but I am actually planning to place these on stands (maybe the front ones on shelves later on).

Don't be fooled by specs. They mean very little in the real world and it really is a matter of listening preference. They can also be manipulated. The Definitive specs above don't have a +/- dB so they are useless. I'd also be concerned about buying speakers without auditioning them. I did that with my sub (SVS) but wouldn't do it with the others. SVS does have a very good reputation around here, but that doesn't mean you will like them.

Do these svs systems perform well for music as well as movies?

If you don't mind a SILVER finsih, you can go with 'Definitive Mythos 2's for 199.00 each on Amazon.com. The regular price is 549.00 each. The BLACK is still 549.00. That's what I did. I got 5 Mythos 2s for 995.00!! No way anyone anywhere can beat that! But, HURRY, I think they're going FAST.

Well, that is just NOT good ENOUGH to me.

I expect free returns, including S/H.:D

Aperion offers 10 yrs warranty parts & labor on speakers/subs, but the electronics/amps in subs are 3 yrs warranty.

NHT offers 5 yrs on speakers/subs, but 1 yr on electronics/amps in subs.

I know I can count on amazon. It seems like Aperion & NHT offer free S/H BOTH WAYS on their 30-days. I expect nothing less.:D

Do you know why SVS does not offer free return shipping?, Because nobody ever sends SVS products back.:p:D

Then what are they AFRAID of?:D

This is a little off topic (sorry :D), but I can understand a product (Bryston 5ch amp) that costs $6,695 and offers a 20 yr warranty.

But I wish Bryston would also warranty their pre-pros for 20 yrs, especially when they come out with their $12K pre-pro.

Anyway, I respect Aperion and NHT for their FULL free S/H return policy.
