So I'm getting steamed about defective discs. I returned my first LOTR blu ray extended edition because one of the discs was bad. I exchanged it for another LOTR blu ray set from the store where I bought it and it has a bad disc as well,. A few months went between buying the first set and exchanging it so I don't think it was just a bad batch of discs from the manufacturer that went to one store.

Same thing has happened to me twice with a criterion collection blu ray dvd and once with another blu ray disc.

So that's 5 bad discs in around 2 months. It could be that I just went through a streak of bad luck with discs but I suspect that the manufacturer's don't worry too much about the quality of their discs as long as they can make a buck.

Make sure the firmware on your BD player is up to date, as, sometimes, old firmware can have problems with some discs. (That is a good potential subject for another thread complaining about how manufacturers get things wrong.)

I have been lucky so far with BDs, as I have only run into one defective disc. When I exchanged it, the new one was fine. But I also am not usually the first person to buy a BD when it comes out, so if there is a problem early on, it will be others who experience it instead of me. By the time I buy a BD, if there are problems with the disc generally, it will already be on the internet with people complaining.

I thought I was having a bad run with discs but it turned out to be my player. I wanted a better player anyway. I just didn't want to pay for it. Life. :)

Either your firmware is out of date, or your player is defective.

I have a pretty new player, the Pannasonic DMP-BDT220. I have updated the firmware. I have played many blu ray discs on it without any problem. So I think it's the discs and not the player . . . How would I tell if it is the player given that most of my discs play just fine on it? [h=1][/h]

By comparing with another player.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. OK, I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Given the number of "bad" blu ray discs, I can't rule out the player as the cause. Looks like I'm buying my buddy next door a few beers to sit down and watch my blu ray discs with me ;)

I have read that people are having issues with the Bond 50 collection that Amazon was selling for $99.00. Lots of complaints. YAA has it, but I forget to ask if he's had any problems.

I know it's already been mentioned, but yeah, check the discs on another player. Does your pc have a blu ray drive?

ALL of the Bond releases have had issues at one point or another :)
