I just got married any my wife is letting me (lol, but its true) buy a surround sound system. This is not my field at all; however, I have listened to the Definitive Technology speakers and really like them. I will be watching more movies than music, but still want quality music ofcourse. So here are my options I have 5K for the system and was thinking initally of getting 4 BP7006's but then i got to reading and am now considering 2 BP7002's both sets of floor speakers would be paired with the C/L/R2002 and hooked up to the Denon 2809CI. If I buy the more expensive bp7002's then I will just buy rear speakers in a month. Is this a good setup? Which is the better choice or should I be thinking something different entirely?

Ok here is another Idea.

I am thinking of just going with the same receiver Denon 2809CI and just getting the Def Tech bp7002 and the CLR 3000, then saving and getting back speakers next month or so. Will I need a sub for this system or will the 12" woofers in the fronts work fine.

For the best HT experience, you NEED a separate sub. How large is your room? With that thought, since a separate sub will be used, I feel the built in powered woofers in the speakers are unnecessary. The Mythos Ones or BP-10/8s would be good alternative options.

i would also reccoment to get the CLR2500 instead of the CLR2002, and I would also go with the BP7002 over the BP7006 if possible, but if it isn't, then the BP7006 are still very good. Also you will want a separate sub regardless of what is built into the towers.

First of all, do NOT pay full retail price for any speaker you buy.:D

I got all of my Def Tech speakers brand new @ 30% off MSRP.

BP7000SC PAIR @ 30% off = $3850
CLR3000 SINGLE @ 30% = $770
SM450 PAIR = $249 @ 6ave.com (on SALE right NOW)

Total = $4,869.

Bought 'em today!

I think I am going to try to make a simpler version of your system AcuDef.
I thought I got a good deal but maybe not as good as you.

CLR3000 $824.00

DENAVR2809CI $765.00

Samsung LN52B750 52" 1080p LCD HDTV 240Hrz $2,130.00

BP7002 (Pair) $1,799.00

I think I am going to also get the Denon3800 Blu-ray player and a pair of the BP7001SC's for my fronts and move the others to the back. Is this a good Idea. My living room in my apartment is 18x14; If I still need a sub after that I will buy one. I am a compulsive person and I just got excited and bought the **** today. That tv is suppose to be sick. We are currently searching for land to build our home. We are looking at plans now and I have my theater in mind. I am hoping to buy another pair of 7001SC's after construction to have a full 7 channel system. I looked at the mytho's but I like the idea of evenly spread bass. Will this reciever be enough for me right now? I can upgrade in the future, but i'm afraid i do not have a good understanding of watts, etc... Any advice guys, better blu-ray players for value or different speakers

I'm dying to sell my whole set and go Mythos. The woman likes the slimmer, more shiny design. :)

The 7001's will timbre match the CLR3000 perfectly and although the 7002 have the smaller mid range drivers in surround speaker duty they will be just fine. I highly agree on getting an outboard sub. I have the 7001's and my system improved greatly when using my SVS. When set to Large I found my 7001's too boomy, so I set as Small and crossed over at 40Hz (making the built in subs basically mid bass drivers and the SVS handles all the low stuff and the blenidng is perfect.

adding an amp

Do I need to add an extra amp with these speakers. Will this Denon feed them enough watts?

I think the Denon 2809 will be fine.

Don't waste your money on the DVD-3800BDCI. It's really not any better than the Oppo BD player.

Should I down grade to the clr 2500 for my bp7002's or stick with the clr 3000. A guy said because the drivers are different it may not be the best and it may be a while before I can buy my longed for 7001's. What are your thoughts?

Always aim for the future. If you WILL get the 7001 or 7000 in the future, then absolutely get the 3000 NOW. Don't even think about the 2500.

Most speakers will do just fine for surround speakers, unless you just want overkill like me.:D

A lot of people think of keeping all the driver sizes the same - 1" tweeters, 6.5" midrange/bass.

Are you sure you want to keep the 7002 with the intention of making them Surround speakers?

Why not just wait a little and get the 7001 or 7000 + CLR3000 and get something that matches with their drivers for surrounds - BP10Bs or StudioMonitors 450s?

Not matching the drivers isn't really critical. It will still sound fine. But if you are going to spend that kind of MONEY, I would do it "RIGHT".:D

The mismatched driver size is a non issue, you won't even realize it when you are listening to them. By all means get the CLR3000, you will love it.
