Debungle, Infinity Beta 50/Orb II/Bose16 II/Kef 3005... help and ?'s

Long story short some here offer helped for me about year ago with system (5.1) - I was/got sick (not been good) though and while I got new system, it never came out of the box until this last weekend - and now got to hear it with 1 movie.

Last year I had my wife talked into going with floor stand speakers vs Bose Actmass 16 II - well, now that I un-boxed this all last weekend here and set up this really kick-butt (they are in fact awesome) Infinity beta 50's (4 of them) and Beta 360 (center) and SW 12 sub-woofer - she says NO way, I want the bose cubes...

Of course couple of problems, 1st, what you guys all think I should ask for price for the sub and 5 speakers above, what are they worth and to sell fast?

Next is what do I get, got to be very small and ceiling mount (NOT in-wall or in-ceiling mounts though), she wants bose, I showed here the orb mod II and KEF 3005 (have to add 2 spks) and she said that would be ok with them as well (thinks they will not sound near as good as the bose she hears on display) hummm...

Since going so small for speakers, will go 7.1 setup - our room is 22' x 29' - I love the idea of the orbs (are they lots better than bose 16 II?) being in the US and made here, just worried about them sounding good for movies...

What do you guys think of the orbs mod II at (I have to stay in that price range or less)? orbaudio.com in 7.1 config - How about the KEF 3005?

To sum up, how much to sell the Infinitiy for? and how/where make that happen? - what should we get that is very small (like bose cubes) and ceiling mounts really easy)?

My Receiver is Onkyo TX-SR805 is that helps

So please everyone comment

That's rough Beta 50s are great speaker IMO

http://www2.kef.com/us/SurroundSound/KHT/3000 by far the best small surround system on the market.

Just get that system and move on.

http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/KEFKHT3005BLK/KEF/KEF-KHT3005-5.1-Home-Theater-Speaker-Package-in-Black/1.html

1100 includes all the speakers and subwoofer.
These have a high WAF and come in Silver and Black.

http://reviews.cnet.com/surround-speaker-systems/kef-kht3005-black/4505-7868_7-31901891.html?tag=mncol;lst

The 5000 series is not an upgrade in sound, but purely in aesethetics.

FYI floor standers aren't needed in a home theater setup. I prefer bookshelfs for home theater.

50's are really big speakers so selling them may be difficult. the cost around 60 to 80 dollars to ship UPS each. So factor that into your cost. If you have the original boxes. Infinity has great boxes so you should be able to use that box.

If you just got them they may be within the audition period. On a side note it seems you and your wife aren't communicating about this very well. Speakers are a huge investment for most families. If she said she was ok with it and has changed her mind this isn't good for you financially. because you will take a good sized loss on your investment. I don't think you should act hastily and that the two of you need to have a serious discussion about this. Perhaps their are other ways to compromise. For example you could sell the two rear beta 50s and then pick up 4 kef eggs for surrounds. FYI you should have a full amount of consulting when adding something to the living room. Remember it's a joint space. I think both of you are being too hasty and not thinking this through. The fact Bose is even an option isn't a good sign.

I do have all the original boxes - however being was sick for nearly full year and just opened them for 1st time this last weekend, well past the return time.

Can get them shipped (should be able to) at good price since company I work at ships lots of FedEx.

What should person ask for them??? They have 1 movie in them, have the boxes, warranty cards and stuff - can not believe they are a no go by my wife :(

I suggest you just ebay them if you are going to sell them. Don't put a reserve price and start at the usual. The price sky rockets in the last hour.

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Black-Infinity-Beta-50-Main-Stereo-Speakers_W0QQitemZ270346217465QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpeakers_Subwoofers?hash=item270346217465&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1546|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50

That looks very promising for you.

610 with one day left means it will likely go for 800.

Since yours are barely used you could do even better.

so at that estimate you could make around 1300 dollars on the speakers. Plenty to get the KEF 3005 set.

Wow they hold their value - I have 4 Beta 50's and center which is Beta 360 and Sub which is SW 12.

do you think asking $1600 for all of them would sell them pretty fast? If ebay them, sell them all as a group?

As fyi... just ran shipping on 1 of these speakers to one of the more costly areas to ship to, $34 each, not real bad (boxing them all back up right now).

KEF 3005 better than the orb Mod II's then?

Yes they are better. They are amazing for their size. They will also have a very wide sound stage and can fill your place. Though they aren't Beta's

I don't suggest you sell the full set in one auction. I don't see anyone buying it.

I suggest you sale the Beta's in pairs. and the 360 separately. I know that means 4 transactions, but a full set will not likely get you very much.

I recently auctioned a speaker for more than I bought it for. LOL. So good luck.

In a room that has 638 square feet your wife won't let you have just 8 for speakers?

Well, that's fair.

EDIT: I bet she hogs the bed too. :D :p

My favorite sub/sat systems are Orb, Nanosats, and Aperion 4B. All of these will probably have trouble filling that room. I suppose Mod2 or Mod4 Orbs might do the trick.

Have you given a listen to the KEF 3000 series?

Wondering how you think they compare.

I just listen and played with the KEF 3005 + 2 for 7.1... and heard the bose right with them, then NOT at the same time nor in a store Mod II's.

I see why you reply many times that kef's are the best little speaker you have heard - 3005's while not the Infinity Beta 50's, they really sound nice and actually bit of a different sound about them that I like - fill the room kind-of sound. Get good volume too...

So put them on the good old credit card and lets hope now ebay does well for the Infinity's.

Wife comments from other posters, when see beta 50 floor standing speakers vs KEF 3005 that hang off the ceiling out of site and mind, I can see her point - as far as 638sq feet, of course that's seeing things in 2D view, once put in there ceiling height and such, again the kef hide real well (they will at least) compare to the Infinity set-up.

Can't say I'm used to the Infinity, 1 movie not so hard to let them go, however they look awesome, some was crazy nice, they have to go....

thanks lsiberian for all the help/comments... and everyone else of course too

I'll update after its all in place and post on how it sounds VS beta 50's - and of course get the speakers up on ebay in next few days.

as far as getting to listen to mod II's - they are really cool looking, small, light, much better than the bose, however the kef 4.5 woofer and having tweeters also is just too much to ask of the orbs is how I felt - clearly the uber 10 had kick, the kef was tighter though and more lows by far - including in movies, hear parts of mirrors on blu ray as example, orbs clearly nice solution, however kef to me sound much more real per say... however then what do I know...

If you can get a second sub. I recommend it with a satellite system because you generally want to cross them over a bit higher. The KEF 3000 subs is very aesthetically pleasing and putting them on axis front and back or to the sides of your listening position would allow you to cross the eggs at 120. Though the 3000's I think can be crossed at 100. I still suggest dual subs and a bit higher crossover for that room. I use the 2000s for my rears and love them. The stands are fairly nice too, but make sure you ebay those. No need to pay 200 for stands. They sound fine on a shelf too.

Oh and actually the KEF speakers are about 5 db quieter in my setup. Just an FYI.

Mirage omnisat v2

You can get mirage omnisat v2 satellite speakers on sale for 99$ each at vanns.com (they are discontinued). They can be ceiling mounted and sound great. Check it out and see if they are still available at Vanns (these are the step up from the nanosets. They will need a sub but you have one already.

P.S. I checked and you can get them for 499$ for 5 omnisats. Again these are good sounding speakers. Mirage is a sister company to Energy and are built very well and are a steal for this price.

They are very nice speakers too. I just wonder if the asethetics would go over well with his Wife. Nanosats are a bit wacky looking IMO.

But a 3005 Series KEF egg I think is better than a cheaper nanosat. Plus the KEF sub is very powerful and aesthetic. I think the Kef 3005 Series in black is one of the best looking packages I've seen.
