I can comment a little from experience, but rather long ago . . .
When we put together our first (shoestring budget) surround system back in 1995 (back before all this wonderful online sharing!), the Circuit City salesman talked me into a set of rather huge DCM floorstanders for my fronts along with a decent Kenwood receiver. Got home, hooked the system up, dropped in a digital recording of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (the "theme" to "2001" if you're not familiar with Strauss), and watched my receiver power off with the first kettle drum strike. Tried it again . . . same thing; and again . . .
Called CCity . . . turned out these DCM's were ungodly power-hungry 4ohm optimal drivers! With that big bass smack, the amps were going into protective mode and shutting the receiver down!
Animated discussion with manager . . . he decides to give me a deal on my now-recently-departed Onkyo 525, which he's sure will drive the beasts.

NOT.
Same scenario, nice Onkyo, same outcome. This time discussion a bit more animated . . . CCity phone service refers me to district manager who cuts me a very nice deal on the set of Infinity SS 3-ways that are still running with our front room system.
Needless to say, the DCM's had no place being in a consumer electronics store . . . they obviously needed serious dedicated amp power, which made zero sense with a budget floorstander. Needless to say, the DCM's disappeared from CCity soon after that . . . I must say, I for one would be quite wary of their quality control . . .
