Couple questions about Yamaha RX-A3060

Oh! This is one I had a hard time understanding. There are 2 settings for subwoofer. One is call "LPF for LFE" on my receiver. That setting is usually 120hz and only affects material recorded in 5.1, 7.1... etc. That setting is for the .1 and has nothing to do with stereo playback.

Just throwing it out there. I'm still learning too and that was one of the things I didn't understand early on in this adventure.
You know what I find really challenging.. keeping up with the shortcut initials and the ways they are measured... I'm a graphic designer and even though I deal with computers any thingrelated to math is my worst nightmare

Most definitely a learning curve, but it seems like you're catching on pretty good. Glad you are having success!!!

Thanks.. but I only understand to an extent... there are manything I just let slip by :)

Yeah, like I said, I'm pretty new to this too. I'm trying to define some of it as I type. If there's anything you don't understand, just ask. I know how confusing it can be and English is my first language! lol

A lot of it for me was just digging in and playing with the settings on my receiver. If I found one I didn't understand I googled it first. I learned that my avr (audio video receiver) can do a lot more than I'd realized. I was able to get some very good sound from my system. I'm a believer in room correction software.

No you're right.. it is confusing.. i have to focus on every word you guys say to understand.. on this particular issue when I read it was magic by lovinthehd something he wrote made me get it.. Right now I am focusing on the big picture though... learning details in the process helps but not everytime.. I got so much to learn and connect many many dots.. it is really a complex system

A guy on avsforum put together a thread of abbreviations used in audio, oriented to subs, that might be helpful here. Are you good as far as math goes between the concept of linear vs logarithmic? Much in audio is logarithmic (like the expression of dB).

Way more than I realized, that's for sure. You'll get it. Just keep experimenting and asking questions.

I think you're doing quite well, took me a long time to put it together :)

I feel too old for playing with devices.. it is time consuming and if you had no clue what monster you just bought like me then i better quit my job and tear the whole god damn thing a part :)

You're right.. it is the passion I believe what drives us to learn.. and even though its math related I'm loving it

I've built four subwoofers so far and working on a fifth and sixth as soon as it gets a bit warmer in the workshop. I have built a pair of kit loudspeakers (including soldering my own crossover) and am working on another set of speakers (also waiting for a bit warmer weather). I also service all my own mountain and road bikes. I like to cook, too. I'm sort of a tool junkie through all these endeavors.

I'm 60....how old are you?

Wow.. i gotta say i really underestimated you.. I do the same kind of work in photoshop and illustrator.. I try to show my own signature in my work.. stealing something between now and then is something I do.. but I always try to make it mine.. I'm 38

I just noticed this post and I got to say I even didn't memorize the multiplication schedule.. I truly suck at math :)

I'm reviewing what been said last night and I would love if you explain more on lpf and how does it affect stereo signal like audio cds
