Somewhat off topic, when I first read about prions it was a surprise to me that such a thing was possible (not so much that a protein could fold incorrectly, but that it could spread).
I think everyone was surprised by the emerging story about prions. It’s good that it’s remained a small problem.

Good news , everyone! The Pharmacist who damaged the COVID vaccine is a Flat Earther! Thinks the sky isn't real, too.

Hope he loses his license for good. Also banned for life in any form of health care job. Disgrace to his profession.

My suggestion for punishment: strap his *ss to a rocket and put him into low earth orbit.

It sounds to me as if he is a classic paranoid schizophrenic. That is text book stuff. It sounds to me as if he needs committal to be treated with antipsychotic drugs.

In the UK the South African variant now has community spread as it does in the US. They have found 11 cases of community spread, unlike the US they are taking aggressive measures to control it.

This video of today's news conference with the health minister is interesting and highlights the difference of approach in the UK versus the US.

NPR has an article about the unexpected drop in COVID-19 cases in India. According to the article, no one really knows why this happened.

He lost his license immediately after this became known.

I'm not sure he would make it as a greeter at WalMart.

I think he may have been sampling the merchandise.

Interesting. One of the theories floated is that the climate isn't as hospitable for the virus. But, looking at Brazil right now, I think that theory will go out the window. I hope India's current success against the virus holds up, but they should be preparing for the worst.

Ever see the Mythbusters episode with the rocket sled?
Interesting, I did not see that episode.

My thought was that strapping him to rocket and putting him in low earth orbit would disabuse him of his belief that the earth is flat. This was of course in jest because he would not survive long enough to see with his own eyes that the earth is round.

On the face of it, it's hard to reconcile the situation in India with the situation in Brazil. I had read an article a few months ago that suggested the apparently high prior infection rate in Manaus Brazil might have been due to people with infections being brought into Manaus from surrounding areas. The gist of it was that Manaus is the only city with medical facilities in a large geographic region so people who were sick went to Manaus for treatment, and high numbers of people being treated made it appears as if more people from Manaus were sick than was really the case. I have no idea if this is correct.

Quanta magazine ran a short article on the difficulty that is encountered trying to model the spread of COVID. One of the biggest problems seems to be accurately predicting human behavior. If the modelers assume that people will follow the lockdown rules and practice social distancing, it leads to a prediction that is often way too low because a lot of people don't actually follow the rules. People then assert that the models are not accurate (true in one sense), and that social distancing, masks, and lockdowns are not effective (true if people don't change their behavior, but this is hardly an argument that these measures are not generally effective).

The video I posted would take less time to "disabuse him of his belief".

How well, or not, is the population being vaccinated, in America, and elsewhere?
