Warp, your photos are underexposed. Take over the controls with the speed light and add some light to that shot.

Also, try stopping down your Macro a bit, moar depth of field. Can't wait till I have a macro.

Was messin around with the camera on a rainy day, so I shot my microphone. Just for shlits I did a 100% crop of it too.

thanks, that's actually my second try. first one was from an angle (more artistic), but i didn't like the DOF cutting through different rows of "gold"

that was shot f/2.8, i have the f/8 versions but they looked more like product shots than anything. i would say that this is the first time i've pictured a shot in my head before going for it. (i used to just wing it before)

i sure am glad for IS since that was a handheld shot

I LOVE Central Park! I would live in NYC just to be able to visit that park on a regular basis.

So, I drive by this old fire engine every day when transiting to and from work. I finally took the opportunity to grab a picture of it.

Very dramatic - I like the shot

You can call me insecure, but besides the subject can anyone experienced give me some constructive critique on the pics i posted earlier
(Forgot to mention equipment : (Nikon D40 + 18-55 DX kit , 55-200 DX VR) w/ some help from DxO Optics

As for a critique:

#1&2: I'd follow the rule of thirds with these, and put the bee off center. They look like good quality shots, but having the bee almost dead center looks a little snapshotty. Simply cropping these would fix that.

#3: Looks out of focus. Rule of thirds with the horizon.

#4: I like the idea of capturing all of the different colors, but the picture looks a little too busy, I don't really know what to focus on.

#5, 6, 7: I like #5 the best, and #7 blends in a little too much with the background. All nice shots though, love the colors.

#8: Not doing much for me. There isn't much going on with the subject, but this is more of a personal opinion than anything. Composition is decent, I just don't like the subject.

These some more bees/flowers pics I shot same day, but now re-cropped and I really tried hard to follow the thirds. Comments are welcome
Can't get DxO Optics Pro 6.5 yet, had to do these in Lightroom 3 - I think I still got used to DxO features and layout.... I'm almost at the point to shell out $99 for it (on sale)

Rule of thirds is more of a guideline than a rule, to be honest. Most of the time it makes a composition more visually appealing, but not always.

The last 4 bee shots look a hair out of focus, but they still look great. Those are some pretty tough shots to get sometimes, especially when you don't have the specific equipment for it.

The crop of the first one looks much better, I almost didn't even realize that it was a crop of your previous post.
