Convertor for pre-outs - Help!

I want to retain my Sansui AUX711 integrated for stereo music and my Yamaha RX V557 for the HT. I have to use the front LR speakers for both amps. Unfortunately, the Yamaha RX V557 does not come with pre-outs.

Is there any converter through which I can connect the LR speaker output of the receiver as pre-out to the AUX/tape inputs of the Sansui?

I do not want to blow up the system in which case I would rather use the Russound speaker selector for 2 amps.

Can anyone help with the converter bit or any other solution?

...voltage dividers...you can probably find them a autosound dealers...they use them to hook up outboard amps, EQs etc. to head units not equipped with pre-outs...

You can also make them with a few properly valued resistors(two per channel) and some male RCA-type plugs...the schematic is available online here and there...the values are dependent on power ratings and input impedances...

You could also run an adapter from your headphone jack...stereo phone plug on one end to L/R RCAs on the other...s/n ratio may suffer a bit.

I think more consumers should take up the lack of "pre-out/power-in" jacks with the manufacturers, maybe they'll listen if they get enough flack...

Do recorder outputs work as pre-outs?

I heard from a source that outputs of recorders (Tape recorders) are as good as pre-outs in a receiver that does not have pre-outs. This is because the recorder outputs are independent of the receiver volume control. The Yamaha does not have tape recorder but MD/CD-R outs.

Can I use them or is there a danger of blowing up something?

You answered your own question...you won't be able to control the volume, so it won't work.

...asked this question at the outset: what is your goal in all of this? Yes, I know you must use the same speakers for some reason but...are turntables, tape decks and not enough inputs on the Yammie part of the problem? ...Amplifier ratings? What do you want to control/drive/otherwise manipulate? Just curious...

Any outputs designated as an output to any recording device will be at a fixed level... neither volume, tone or any other sound-enhancement options will be available at these jacks.

How about the "Zone 2" option of the Yamaha? Does the Sansui have pre-outs? Any other gear involved?

My thoughts

Primarily, its a question of budget in not getting another set of front LR speakers
Secondarily, I like the stereo on the Sansui better than the stereo on the Yamaha, which I bought only for the HT in the first place
Thirdly, try as much as they can, no receiver manufacturer can deliver anything close to a dedicated amp
Lastly, the space is not enough as I am in Kuwait & do not want to spend just for some years in this country with a makeshift system
So, I guess its back to getting the Russound AB speaker switch to separate the two to make the twain not meet ...

I did, seeing there are so many guys on this forum who can help me out :p
Thanks guys
