Connection from Bluray to older receiver?

I have a question about connecting a Blu-ray player to my older non HDMI Denon 3805. If I purchase a bluray player with the built in decoder and connect it via the 7.1 analog inputs will this bypass my EQ in the Denon?

You are correct. Dolby TrueHD and DTS MA are codecs not handled by a 3805. If you can find a BR with analogs outs, that's the way to go.

The best place to find the answer to your question is to look in your manual for the Denon to see if the EQ is bypassed on multichannel input. I believe more recent receivers have allowed this type of post processing to occur, but on that particular Denon AVR I am uncertain as it sits awfully close to that time period of "uncooperative functionality while I'm in multichannel mode". It used to be a purist thing, but once these manufacturers got wind that people actually know what makes their stuff sound better they started changing their program.:D

That’s what I was afraid of Geno. I much prefer the sound when using my Room EQ engaged vs. off. Just curious, why does using the 7.1 analog inputs bypass the processing and the toslink, digital coax, composite inputs do not? This puts me in a dilemma. Should I spend an extra $100 and get a bluray player with analog outputs and just kiss my EQ good by:-( or take that $100 and put on a cheap recover with hdmi? On the AV Rant podcast they were saying that Denon was coming out with one that is around $350. I don’t have the funds to spend another $1000 on an AVR like I did for the 3805. Will I be taking a step back when purchasing a cheaper AVR or will it be better than my old 3805? Thanks for any advice.

I do not know if the 3805 bypasses digital processing or not (my old 3300 did), if it does the reason was that audio purist do not want another A to D to A conversion series that is needed for audio processing. Also note that if your AVR bypasses digital processing that will also include bass management, which is a real pain.

I just bought the Oppo player and it's connected thru the analog outs. It sounds so damn good that I won't be using my Yamaha for any processing. Get one and you won't care about the Denon either. It will blow away what you're hearing now. Money back guaranteed!
