Help! I received some old audio components from a deceased friend's wife and having trouble hooking up a turntable (Denon DP-51F) to the receiver (RX-V530) which does not have a phonograph input. I tried to connect to Aux but I can barely hear the sound, any ideas?

Thanks

You need a phono preamp between the turntable and the aux input, to boost the signal and provide RIAA equalization.

Thanks! Does it have to be compatible to the receiver or turntable?

You did not tell me what your turntable is. Most likely you have a moving magnet cartridge and so need an MM phono preamp. On the off chance you have a moving coil cartridge you would need a MC phono preamp. It will be compatible with you receiver.

ART makes some good and reasonably priced phono pre-amps....

A phono preamp boosts the phono cartridge voltage to a level that is high enough to match with any auxiliary input on your receiver.

Assuming you have a moving magnet cartridge, this model would do a satisfactory job with your turntable:

The ART DJPRE II Phono Preamp would also be a good alternative:
