Connecting Denon turntable to Yamaha RX-V530

Help! I received some old audio components from a deceased friend's wife and having trouble hooking up a turntable (Denon DP-51F) to the receiver (RX-V530) which does not have a phonograph input. I tried to connect to Aux but I can barely hear the sound, any ideas?

You need a phono preamp between the turntable and the aux input, to boost the signal and provide RIAA equalization.

You did not tell me what your turntable is. Most likely you have a moving magnet cartridge and so need an MM phono preamp. On the off chance you have a moving coil cartridge you would need a MC phono preamp. It will be compatible with you receiver.

A phono preamp boosts the phono cartridge voltage to a level that is high enough to match with any auxiliary input on your receiver.
