What kills me about this is that there are many who are saying lets invade Iran and bomb North Korea.

Your right, what's a measily 5 billion? I'm complaining about spending on both sides so you'll notice no kool-aid stains on my lips.
I hate the way these guys (all of them) slip in money for something totally unrelated to the actual bill. But it's only 4.7% so who cares? And the Dems did it so it must be ok, right?
I think you miss the point grif. Your first post:

By the way, all Republicans voted against it.
You're simply implying that Republicans are doing the right thing. But isn't that what the Dems did before now? Does that mean the Dems had it right all these years except now?

Lucy, you got some s'plainin to do!

It is funny to look at these posts and realize that it is the same congress (before and now) we are talking about. Ya'll keep saying the republicans before, what you really mean Bush and his administration. I think that only the people that have actually read the entire bill can make an educated decision. All we see are the headlines not the real sleaze (pork) within it.

I think that it has nothing to do with how they voted then and now, but rather the motives (and pork) behind it.

IMO regardless of who the president is, OUST the whole !@#$ing lot of Congress or start making them accountable.

I've been saying it for twenty years...the downfall of the US will not come militarily or at the hands of terrorists - it will be financial in nature. We're definitely on the down slope of empire status.
Well said...but reaction to threats have and will have additional impact upon our financial state. And it doesn't seem to matter whether the donkeys or the elephants are in power. I agree with you that the party is over.

Well I think that "threatening" to cease ALL military funding unless a timeline for removal in written is one thing, while "Trimming Fat is another."
Aww you are so cute and naive to think the reason is anyone voted no on funding our troops is going to matter in an election campaign. :p

I can hear the misleading TV and radio spots already...

OF course they are, that is how you get a "New(er) Deal" to work, by being involved in a massive war to boost jobs making the spending look like a success. It worked for FDR.

There is a very simple fix for Washington. Lifetime term limits.

4 year seats - 2 term maximum
2 year seats - 4 term maximum

This would be enforced at Federal and State levels.

It would help to end the "career politician" and begin to rid the country of a political "elite" class.

The next step is getting rid of fund raising & lobbying. One can only receive private donations from individuals.

The biggest issue that I see is an elite class will not police itself, so getting something like this through would have to come from executive order  :(

I've voiced these positions for several years now and couldn't agree more.

Here is a guy who doesn't. What on earth are you talking about?

I never mentioned anything about an election campaign, although I did botch the post a little so I will give you the benefit of the doubt.

My point was that the same Congress flip flopped on the funding for troops issue. During Bush they tried to control the Presidency by refusing funding until a timeline for troop removal in Iraq was made. Still have troops in Iraq, under a Liberal president, and now they are pushing for funding (with only God know what hidden in the fine print). If you read some of earlier posts you would see that I mentioned that one cannot make an educated decision (from either side) by listening to radio or TV, but by reading the legislation.

Hope this ties thing together a bit.:)

I not too sure about this. Kindly disagree on this issue. I believe that the war has a huge negative impact on the economy. Russia's eco fell right through the floor when they were fighting them. I don't think that is coincidence. What it does do is allow HUGE amount of pork to be pushed through, in a hurry, when trying to pay for the war. And it wouldn't be the first time.

And I am not convinced that the "New Deal" actually worked.

Need to add Supreme Court justices to that as well... which of course won't happen because they think they are more powerful than the other branches and would overturn any attempt to do so as unconstitutional... You'd literally have to change the constitution.

Then you get more backseat career politicians.
