We're going broke and congress just this afternoon slipped billions into the bill to fund the war for the World Monetary Fund. WTF!!! Next election we really need to throw all the bums out.
By the way, all Republicans voted against it.

Republicans spent like crazy in office. Seems we have no real options.

The Republicans vote against all spending bills now but of course were all too happy to triple the national debt when they had a majority.

I've been saying it for twenty years...the downfall of the US will not come militarily or at the hands of terrorists - it will be financial in nature. We're definitely on the down slope of empire status.

5 billion on a 106billion dollar bill? As in about 4.7%?

Whatever, this is the GOP looking for something to complain about, plain and simple. When the Dems did this same thing the past 8 years (and they did) they were called unpatriotic for not supporting the troops. Guess what the Dems are going to pull now?

Talk about drinking the kool-aid*. This is not politics, it is a pissing match.

*Referring to the taking sides when complaining about spending.

Your right, what's a measily 5 billion? I'm complaining about spending on both sides so you'll notice no kool-aid stains on my lips.
I hate the way these guys (all of them) slip in money for something totally unrelated to the actual bill. But it's only 4.7% so who cares? And the Dems did it so it must be ok, right?

Sure we all know that, but the "does not support our troops" card was played on the Democrats in the last couple elections because they did not support military spending bills on similar grounds.

So I am just sayin'...;)

Well I think that "threatening" to cease ALL military funding unless a timeline for removal in written is one thing, while "Trimming Fat is another."

With that being said, if we continue to run this country based on these pissing contests we will be another 3rd world country in no time. However I have more faith in the PEOPLE (us) than that.

I heard someone say that "you can no more spend your way out of an economic recession than a fat guy can gorge his way thin." Sounds like a HUGE slap of common sense straight to the face.

The Reps and Dems need to stop their cold war on each other and start running the country. If a Dem says one thing, all the Reps are against it. If a Rep says something, all the Dems are against it. So no matter who says anything, regardless of what they say or who they are, half of them are dead set against it and will fight to discredit that person who came up with it. There are no more individual ideas anymore. No one voting according to what they think. Everyone just votes with their party while sticking their tongues out at the other side and singing the Other Side Sucks tune.
We aren't going to get anywhere until the word cooperation is somehow put back into our government's vocabulary. And using the word to describe that the other party is not this does not count. Time to tear down the fence.

Everyone calls out doom and gloom, but the situation isn't that bad. Our country has been run this way for over 200 years. Politics hasn't changed and people haven't changed.

Remember such debts are used as investment vehicles by many folks. It's not like anyone can call us on our debts. The only nation more powerful than us is the EU. But their governments are more messed up than ours.

It's easy to complain, but be thankful for what you have.

FYI, we do have a third world it's called the hood.

And consumer debt rivals the national debt. So what do you expect. If you currently have debt you can't complain because your congressman represents you. If you don't have debt then you are probably making money off your money being lended to others for interest.

Either way get a grip of reality. Maybe we do need to be more like China their people are mostly happy with the government.

Interesting thought. So then I guess the question is...when is enough, well enough. Do we just continue to increase our national debt indefinitely? When does it get so high that others choose not to use it as the "investment vehicle." What happens to our dollar then?

I certainly am not saying that I have any solutions other than obvious general statements like stop spending.

I am certainly aware that consumer debt is an issue. One could go on for days about that in and of itself.

How about being like China (not a chance in hell I am taking that bait :D)

Problem is we are a consumer driven society. So spending is all we know.:) This forum has many who understand that principle all too well. :)

I don't want to ever be happy with my government like that if I am then they must be lying to me. :)
