Below is the article linked op-ed by Ezekiel Emmanuel:

I read the gist of the first article. No one is going to force people to die at 75.

Not really, the republicans have been off the deep end for a while now.
the differance is, they were in the closet

they started to come out under Clinton

Bush JR molded them into a voting block

hate radio and Fox motivated them

and then Trump came along and slowly they came out of the closet thinking it was acceptable to be evil ignorant dipshits.

Clue: (to all the "deplorable" Trumpets) It's not OK.

Peace

Grotesque ignorance.

There is nothing natural about not doing all you can do to preserve life.

In fact it is most unnatural to not strive for every moment of life. To sacrifice to live longer.

Seriously, I have no life.
There has to be some measure of protection for the majority against the stupid unless the stupid want to self isolate on a remote is and until they succumb to the virus and pass on. Darwin has to get more agressive in weeding out the dumb. Individual freedoms and rights disappear for those who are f'in selfish.
This needs to be mandated soon. ;) :D

That was jaw dropping when I heard it even after three years of Trump.
I guess old people don't spend any $$$ so the economy is not being supported by them. :D
I'll try to pass that on to some friends, stop spending.:D

I read your little article there and who cares. He basically said he doesn't want to live past 75. No one is going to make anyone die at 75. You posted that because you wanted to post politics and start a political discussion. You knew exactly what the hell you were doing. Congrats, you sidelined the discussion on vaccines.

Politics never entered into my reason for posting that- it was the comments he made.

Your overreaction and complete lack of civility are what could sideline it, not a post with no political comment.

Sure big guy, sure it didn't. At least we now know there are "more important things than living" though.
Don't bullshit me. You knew exactly what the hell you were doing.

I was just thinking of the numbnut in Texas (lt gov?) who wanted old people to die for the economy....and wondered if he ever sacrificed himself.
If only he would.

At 70 years old, did he forget that he's in the senior citizen age group?

No one is going to make anyone die at 75.
It depends on how bad this pandemic gets. Choices will have to be made and sadly it seems the medical community may well need to ration care a month from now.
They have shown that instead of leaving the Trumpists who would not wear masks and proliferated the spread of the virus beyond controllable levels to die, they will instead discriminate in treatment by age.

Personally, I'd like to see legislation enacted that disallowed care to those who did not comply with CDC guidelines.

We don't like him. A lot of Texans are really pissed at that guy. Him and the actual Gov won't last past the next election. (fingers crossed)

GOP politicians must have very short memories.

In 2009, during the debate about federal health care insurance, the term "death panel" came up. Certain GOP politicians coined that term as they claimed the proposed legislation would create panels of bureaucrats who could decide whether people, such as the elderly or the disabled were worthy of receiving medical care.
Now, in 2020, we see similar GOP politicians who argue the opposite – that they should have the power to ration the limited coronavirus vaccine supply, and decide who should and should not receive vaccinations. 2009 wasn't that long ago, unless they have very short attention spans.

Even worse, these GOP politicians don't care that they contradict their own arguments from the recent past. In their cynicism, they assume the public is unable to remember their previous lies.

Mutations mean absolutely nothing, try to doing some research. The mutations have been very slight. The spike protein which is what infects cells us still the same. That is what the vaccines are targeting.

Some of the mutations in the new strain in the UK are in the spike protein. I don't think anyone really knows right now exactly how significant this is.

Having said that, I have not seen anything that would dissuade me from getting a vaccine. Everything I have read suggests that would be relatively easy to modify the vaccines if necessary.

>>>An initial analysis of the new variant has been published and identifies 17 potentially important alterations.
There have been changes to the spike protein - this is the key the virus uses to unlock the doorway to our body's cells.
One mutation called N501Y alters the most important part of the spike, known as the "receptor-binding domain".
This is where the spike makes first contact with the surface of our body's cells. Any changes that make it easier for the virus to get inside are likely to give it an edge.
"It looks and smells like an important adaptation," said Prof Loman.

The other mutation - a H69/V70 deletion, in which a small part of the spike is removed - has emerged several times before, including famously in infected mink.
Work by Prof Ravi Gupta at the University of Cambridge has suggested this mutation increases infectivity two-fold in lab experiments. Studies by the same group suggest the deletion makes antibodies from the blood of survivors less effective at attacking the virus. . . .

Will the vaccines work against the new variant?
Almost certainly yes, or at least for now.
All three leading vaccines develop an immune response against the existing spike, which is why the question comes up.
Vaccines train the immune system to attack several different parts of the virus, so even though part of the spike has mutated, the vaccines should still work.
"But if we let it add more mutations, then you start worrying," said Prof Gupta.
"This virus is potentially on a pathway for vaccine escape, it has taken the first couple of steps towards that."
Vaccine escape happens when the virus changes so it dodges the full effect of the vaccine and continues to infect people.
This may be the most concerning element of what is happening with the virus.
This variant is just the latest to show the virus is continuing to adapt as it infects more and more of us.
A presentation by Prof David Robertson, from the University of Glasgow on Friday, concluded: "The virus will probably be able to generate vaccine escape mutants."
That would put us in a position similar to flu, where the vaccines need to be regularly updated. Fortunately the vaccines we have are very easy to tweak.<<<

1. You don't have to get the Vaccine
2. You don't have to participate in society w/o it either

Kind of like Mumps, Measles etc... No vaccination, no school.

Quote from Emanuel:

>>>Whether it’s cognitive or physical, 75 is a very important threshold. As we get older, our cognitive abilities decline — there’s a natural slowing down of the brain, a natural decrease in processing speed, a natural decrease in creativity. So, if you are interested in mental acuity, 75 is where you see a dramatic slowdown. <<<

I wonder if he will let Biden and Fauci know that they hare experiencing dramatic cognitive and physical slowdowns. Here's how I imagine the conversation:

"So, Joe, I know you're president and all, but I wanted to let you know you're well past the important 75 threshold, and you've obviously experienced dramatic decline. This whole 'I'm the President of the United States' denial thing you've got going on is really not in your best interest. You need to face up to the fact that we'd all be better off if you were to just drop dead. And you Anthony, I realize you still run every day, and you "work" 15 hour days supposedly as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, but at 79 we both know you're really just an aging blob of worthless jello masquerading as a functioning human. Just stop all this 'I'm healthy and productive' nonsense and do the rest of us a favor and drop dead like you're supposed to."

I used that clip for a presentation about the bubonic plague in high school. My biology teacher looked at me and said "is this what I think it is?" while I have a huge grin on my face. He let me play the entire clip though so that was awesome.
