Composite to Component??

Hi folks,
I searched around the forum here, but I haven't been able to find any info that helps my issue.

I just got my first 42" LCD HDTV which has picture in picture, BUT it has some of the features disabled.
I can watch picture in picture with: TV (regular cable TV, no box) and component, TV & hdmi, component & hdmi, RGB & component, hdmi or TV, but not TV and AV (composite or s-video).

I'd like to be able to watch cable TV and one of my VCR's as a picture in picture input to watch tapes or TV using the tuner in the VCR.

I'm basically going to have to convert a VCR's composite video out to component or hdmi to use it for picture in picture.

Has anyone else encountered a similar issue?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

You're going to need some kind of electronics to make the conversion, it isn't a simple cable. This probably won't be cheap. Here is one I found for $140. I don't know anything about it so I can't say how good of a job it does.

You might want to consider buying a vhs/dvd player combo with a component out. You could probably find one cheaper than it would cost for the converter box. I can't think of anything else that would be cheaper.

The converter linked above would do the trick but most people use a receiver that can transcode Composite to Component or HDMI.

Thanks for the link, I'll check into that converter.

I have a DVD/VCR with component out, but the component is only output for the DVD... I thought I was in luck, but I still have to use composite for the VCR.

Along these same lines, I wonder if there is something that will adapt coax to component or hdmi.
