Component Video question

are the 3 component video cables in a set are virtually the same type of cable as any standard 3 RCA cables? say stereo audio/video? So in a way you could use a Video/stereo audio cable to pass component video information?

something tells me this isn't the same...

Well, it depends on where you're buying your cables from. A video cable is meant to have a 75 Ohm characteristic impedance and be made in a coaxial design (IE center conductor-dielectric-shield-jacket). If you have audio interconnects that are made with video-grade coaxial cable and 75 Ohm RCA connectors (like many at Blue Jeans Cable), then you can use them as component cables. Otherwise, I'd say you'd be best to get a dedicated component cable so that you know you're getting the right thing. It doesn't have to be be silver plated with quad shielding, but a good braid/foil shield combination along with a 75 Ohm impedance are important. I strongly recommend that you check out Impact Acoustics and Blue Jeans.

I actually have a pair of these. Very good build for the price. I actually got mine at Target a couple of years ago on clearance for like $8 for a 12 foot length. They look as good as the Rat Shack Gold series and AR cables.
