Combining Crossovers

Hello All,

I have a question: can you combine built-in crossover in a subwoofer with crossover in a processor to reinforce the cutoff of high frequencies? What would be the effect? Thanks and sorry if this is a dumb question.

Never combine, most subwoofers lfe input will defeat internal crossover but if unsure just turn the subs crossover all the way up

Thank you! I was thinking that maybe I could set the crossover point higher in my UMC-200 and then combine it with my SVS internal crossover to make higher frequencies clearer. But if you are saying LFE input defeats internal crossover, there is my answer. Right now my SVS is set to full range.

I was very happy with my crossover set at 65 Hz with 24db/octave slope at moderate/high volumes. But as I recently started to listen louder, I was wondering if my Def Tech SM-55 monitors are too wimpy to take the mid/low bass content, and set the crossover at 80 and then 100 Hz. It relaxed the sound a bit, but now I have a tad too much upper bass/lower midrange. This got me thinking about that idea... but it's not a big deal, really.

We have talked about this a little bit before, try 80 and see how it sounds. You want to blend it if your f3 is as close as yours

SM-55 has its f3 at 44 Hz according to Sound&Vision. That's why I set the crossover at 65 Hz initially. Is that more or less correct?

Ya it's closer to the Fs but I've got to imagine that it's pushing the speaker harder than needed. Play around and see. My mains go to the mid 30s and I still cross 80, except with some music
