Mostly it's in the numbering series but NR is a slimline avr lineup, SR full sized avrs, PM is an integrated amp line up (2ch). Keep in mind modern Marantz has been married to Denon for quite a while and share a lot, and often Denon is better priced for the same feature set.

Ok so what about the different line ups for denon? Seems just the 2. The s and x. X being the premium?

Yes, the S lineup is a lower end lineup from the X series, personally I only focus on the 3xxx and up Denons (x series) due the feature set.

And yet Marantz in measurements seems to take a hit for those things....but who knows could be considered "better sounding" by some nonetheless.

Being that I am in the same boat as you @Pogre, placing higher priority on my music playback.. i think I'm gonna go with Marantz, just need to figure out which one. The 6011 is discontinued

The newer models have a higher series number. I think the 6015 is the newest one now. You get pretty much the same features and performance from Denon's 3 series with the newest being the 3700. Both models have good power, req and full set of preouts. I got a 6011 because I found a great deal with a 3 year warranty. If the Denon 3400 were available for less I'd have gotten that one.
