Center Channel Please?

Hello folks, I am in need of advice on what center channel to get. I am on a budget (less than $250, hopefully much less) and want to timbre match as best as possible. I have NHT 1.5 bookshelf speakers for my front and they sport one 6.5" mid-bass and a 1" tweeter made of some metal (not sure of the material used). I may not be able to afford another NHT for a center as I have looked and found nothing in my price range.

My receiver is a Yamaha HTR-5890 and I listen to music very often. Though I usually listen to music in two channel I would like to have a musical center none the less. Many center channels I have listened to sound hollow to me, but I could be loosing my mind.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Aluminum, that is what NHTs tweeters have typically been.

I would wait and pick up a NHT center... Check www.audiogon.com and (ugh) eBay.

I looked at the VC-2, it doesn't look like it would pair up with my NHTs, it looks to have polymer tweeters, though I am not sure.

I had been looking on Ebay and Audiogon for some used NHT center channels, namely the NHT Audio Center 1, AKA: AC-1.

I was wondering about maybe getting the Onyx center channel, even though it uses a different tweeter. I don't know what to do here.

The one for $200 is open box and I won't get paid till next week, it could sell sooner than I can conceivably order.:(

Sorry, can't resist: Appropiate backup for your needs.

Very booooooring to do, but then you might avoid some unneeded excitement later on.

Call Yawa. Great people. They may have the model you want, even though it's not on their site.

Found the place I was thinking of. Didn't see anything at the moment, but it's a good link to have. I have never purchased from them, but I have been looking at the site for about four years.

I can't get this site to work.:(

I even tried googling it and going to the site from there, oh well bad luck for me.

Using a sheilded bookshelf had occured to me, but 4.5" is to small and again different tweeters. Maybe an older Paradigm studio series center from ver. 1 or 2. They use a one inch aluminum dome tweeter.

For some reason it's acting-up. They have been around for a while though. I did find that they are not authorized to sell. Yawa and One Call are both authorized dealers.;) Pretty sure J&R is as well.

what about a steel plate between the unshealded NHT 1.5 and the TV?

not shure :)eek: ) never had to try it. but the steel plate would be doing what the shelding in a speaker dose: blocking the magnetic field from the drivers.
I don't think it would have to be too thick of a plate, just wide and deep enough to block the field the speaker is creating (maby the same width and depth as the TV).
