A very short update today on some of the stuff that I saw. There will be a good deal more tomorrow should all go well. Links back to Audioholics are included on the site.

Not mentioned: Met Clint at CEDIA in front of the Panny Blu-ray player as well as another Audioholics writer (I'm so bad with names - sorry) and it was great to meet those guys.

if that doesn't work...

NHT Controller Listing?

Hello,

You have shown the new NHT Controller in what's new at Cedia coverage and have listed that it has multiple subwoofer outputs? Looking at the manual and back panel I only see one? Is there something we don't know or see??

Thanks
James

any universal DVD-A/SACD player with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding/output through HDMI v1.3

any universal HD-DVD/Blu-ray player with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding/output through HDMI v1.3

any universal DVD-A/SACD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray player with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding/output through HDMI v1.3

There is nothing preventing a couple of manufacturers from adding Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, and HDMI 1.3 in the future to universal players. But I bet there is little desire for companiesto do that, as both DVD-A and SACD are dying formats (and I own a Pioneer 59avi and Denon 2910). Heck, Sony's Blu Ray player isn't even supporting SACD. That speaks volumes.

The handwriting on the wall is fairly plain---If you want a choice of players with both Dolby TRueHD, DTS-HD, and HDMI 1.3 you are mainly going to find them in the 2nd and third generation Hi-Def players. Why will audio software providers want to make SACD or DVD-A's with TrueHD when that market has shown to be self-limiting, if not a dead end? If Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD takes off in audio, it will undoubtedly be on both HD and Blu Ray compatible discs.

I just hope the downloaders haven't won completely with their lossy downloads. I would think that there will be companies that will eventually provide high quality audio on one disk with Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, along with high quality 2-channel for audio playback. There is plenty of space on both HD and Blu Ray for this. This fact alone will undoubtedly speak the doom of sacd and dvd-a. When the providers can put all the formats they want on one HD or Blu Ray disk, why **** around with lower storage dvd-a and sacd disks to a self-limiting market.

That said--I feel your pain!

In the past we’ve had such exciting occurrences as broken planes (two for the same traveler), given away rental cars, and seats next to people of questionable hygiene. Not one to buck a trend, I’ve taken it upon myself to summarize our travels to CEDIA this year. I’ve taken a careful poll of all those currently in attendance and this is what I’ve got so far...

Dolby True HD hardware

What hardware was used in the Dolby TrueHD demo?
http://www.audioholics.com/cedia/cedia2004/DolbyTrueHD.php

Looks like a Denon ?model 3806, which is sitting on a ??, and what is the box sitting on the nearby table?

I guess my question is: If HDMI 1.3 is required for Dolby TrueHD, how was the signal supplied to the reciever, or was a new upcomming model or modifed reciever being used.

Thanks,

Yancy

Gene,

Do you have any info now of the 5805CI and if the original 5805 can be upgraded to match it in performance?

Our coverage of the 5805CI is under the Processors section of our main CEDIA page.

No the current 5805 cannot be upgraded to all of the new updated the 5805CI will have.

Did Sherwood Newcastle show any new prepros and/or Receivers?
Sherwood Newcastle had a dismal display of their products at CEDIA. Their booth offered no support for press and most of their reps were sitting in chairs talking.

Olevia

Did anyone hit the Syntax Olevia booth? How do their new LCD units look compared to last year? They have an entire new line out. I was a little disappointed to see they were still 1080i, and many not having built in ATSC tuners. Great sets for the money, nonetheless.

He's pulling a suitcase. Man, look at those forearms. Gene's in the wrong biz. He should be starting for the Steelers tonight as linebacker.
