Gene, or anybody. Did you see if Pioneer showed any other new dvd players other than the 79?
Their booth was a madhouse, especially since they had prime location. The 79 was the only new player they really focused on when I visited them. I will check their press releases to see if anything else is new.

Now, that is exactly what I wanted to see. Now, I can tell BMXtrix, that ambient light won't kill contrast (J/K BMX).
;) Yes, the perfect match for your Optoma H31, InFocus SP4805, or AE700 projectors...

Black screen technologies and the ability to shed some off angle light has been around for a bit. Big talk of the Sony black screen and there was some stuff at InfoComm this year as well.

The problem is that most people spending $5K - $10K+ on a projector setup don't often put it in a well lit room. Those that want to do this, I would direct towards a product like this, or one of the other ones for sure.

I would be nifty to see a actual review of some of these black screen technologies though. Even the CEDIA write up is only about half a page for a product that may cost $3,000 or more. Could you imagine a review of the Denon 5805 only being half a page?

J/K guys, I know it is just news reporting, not a review of the product.

I feel like such a loser for only staying up till 3am posting substandard articles for CEDIA. Next time it will be a steady diet of No Doz and Red Bull for me! Sleep is for the weak!!!!! :D

pioneer and yammy

Any thoughts of getting the RXV 2600 and the VSX-74XVi in a room together to see how they stack up??? Sounds like they both have potential. I like the idea of having all my inputs to the AV coming out of one hdmi out to the video display.

I'd like to see how those Leon Speakers sound. They're local to me!

I'm curious about this myself. The hand-rubbed wood bookshelves were gorgeous (the pics don't do them justice). Just from visual inspection and from talking with the staff, I'm concerned about how much they sacrificed SQ for WAF. Plus, they have UNREAL turnaround times. 7 days for a custom cabinet? That's crazy fast.

Thanks Gene.
I haven't seen anything in pioneers's "press room" on their site, other than they say they are celebrating the 20th aniversary of the Elite brand with 2 receivers and a dvd player. Sounds like a weak celebration if you ask me.

Transparent Cable Rings in on CEDIA

While perusing the show floor we noted this interesting sign from Transparent Cable booth that read “add $$$ to your installs here” while pointing to their booth. Very interesting indeed and indicative of a company that prides itself on its outstanding markup as opposed to outstanding products. While their products have very nice aesthetics some of their claims seem a bit dubious such as the ones we discussed in the following article.

Indeed. I e-mailed them asking about their driver choices awhile ago. They responded with this:

Leon Speakers said:
Our European drivers are Peerless HDS drivers. You can see the
published specifications at http://www.tymphany.com/
Our audiophile grade tweeters are, in fact, Morel's. You can
see their spec's at http://www.morelusa.com/
I think that they start with good building blocks, so assuming they have good cabinet engineers (they use 3/4" MDF), I think they should be able to perform quite well.

Edit: The info above is for the Horizon Speakers.

What I don't get is that no one working at their booth seemed at all interested in how their speakers sounded. All they wanted to talk about was the turnaround time and the aesthetics. That's what got me wondering about how much they sacrificed for WAF. Could be the resident engineer was in the bathroom when I came by. Who knows?

I was with Gene at the time and I was amazed at what I was hearing (not in a good way). The whole booth glowed blue from all the giant LED displays on the amps and such. The speakers we heard, well, sibilant is a word. We weren't at the prime listening location (a couch set up in the booth) but I thought speakers of that size and apparent quality would have sounded better no matter where we were located. I really heard more sizzle than boom. Maybe at CES I’ll have a chance to take a closer look at them.

NO. You need HDMI Ver. 1.3. There is no current chipset in production that will support it yet. No first Gen HD Players will pass TrueHD audio. They will downconvert to DD but at 640kbps.

Boom? Sizzle? Hey, these forums are no place for ebonics :p

Thats funny, those extremely expensive speakers sound like budget speakers.... I can't remember who, but theres a member here who kept saying "oh you guys are cheap, You have to spend money inorder to get high quality sound" Just think of all the money that was wasted.....

I'm curious about those two new Yamaha DVD players that doe DVD-A and SACD -- do they have ilink output, and/or HDMI output that passes both formats digitally (or SACD as PCM)?

Also, I'm couldn't tell what the actual differences were between the two.
