Good day!

Currently running 4 powered subwoofers off of my onkyo TR-SX806 . I have a PSW 505 with blown driver, would it be worth it put in an old car sub in it. That would give me a total of 5 subs in my 7.1. Also what about wiring 2 car subs in their own seprate sealed boxes off the amp in the PSW 505 in series? I use this stsyem for gaming, bluerays and hifi audio.

The PSW 505 is a powered sub so I am not sure if your car sub's driver is suitable for that amp. If the sub is out of warranty, you can still email Polkaudio to find out how much they want for a replacement driver and go from there.

It's not likely that you could just drop one in there and have it work as well. Even budget subs are properly designed systems. Without knowing
t/s parameters or enclosure volume your taking a shot in the dark. The 505 falls on its face by about 25hz, which about where most car drivers are f3'd at too so...Might work, might not. Also, the amp in the 505 has been known to fail, and I would not recommend using it outside of its intended design. On the other hand, if it's junk anyway, and you have the driver, why not.

Drivers can be reconed and that is a job he could do himself. Drivers are all so different it will not work to just drop in another driver. Chance of having the enclosure anywhere close to correct tuning is about the same as winning the lottery.

Well I think we're saying the same thing? Only difference is reconing. I hadn't thought of that, and loosely understood him to mean his driver was fried by way of a burned up VC or something like that.

So, then, how is it that your driver is "fried"?

Fried means the VC is burnt, but a cone comes with the VC attached. Unless the driver has been run over, the chassis and magnet will be fine. Everything else comes with the reconing kit, plus the correct shims to set the VC gap, and usually loudspeaker glue.
