is this a good idea...my friends old vega floor standers have a blown woofer in one of them, its a 15inch he just wants something that matches in there and will only be using them for music, can he get just any car woofers and put them in there providing they are the correct ohms for the receiver, well he actually has an old yammy pre amp that wieghs like 90 pounds..

Cerwin Vega will sell new ones or he can ship them to them for repair.

He might find parts on ebay also.

Well, they'll "work", but not well.

Enclosures are designed with a specific woofer in mind, and these requirements entail much, much more than simply fitting in the box and screwing it into place. Therre are many "parameters" that must be taken into consideration when deciding what enclosure to use with what speaker. There are books and computer programs written on this subject.

While you might find a suitable physical "fit", you may well find that the parameters of your chosen replacement are so far off from the original that it sounds like drek. In fact, odds are very high that it will.

Right. So that would be true for any woofer then.

How about a car sub in a DIY box? Sorry for the OT btw.

Pretty sure annunaki uses a JBL W7 in a DIY box. As far as I know that woofer was "designed" for car use as I have only seen it at car audio shops. I think in reality any well designed woofer will work well regardless of what it was designed for if the box is appropriately designed and you aren't try to do something with it that it wasn't designed for.
