That is sad, I thought after he had the health scare awhile ago he would be OK. His son's must be beside themselves.

I heard that on the radio yesterday. Pretty sad. He went through a lot, and it was cool to see him come back, but that kind of life isn't exactly easy on a person.

Sadly, I read this last night on yahoo. Really liked the show. RIP Phil!

I saw that yesterday. I had just read the day before I think that he was making a strong recovery. That's what's really scary to me... that you can be in a hospital surrounded by professionals who's sole job is to keep you alive... and you just have this completely unforseen event right when everything seems to be getting better and check out just like that.

It's sad. It's really sad.

I was a bit shocked by the news. Then again, it tells us all how life can be short. Considering the limited number of television shows that I watch, I liked this series. It's really a rough life that those in the industry live. May he rest in peace.

He was a heavy smoker and cigarettes cause weakening of blood vessels. It has been well known for a long time and, while I didn't watch the show often, I can't think of a scene where he wasn't burning a grit. They didn't say if it was a blockage or a bleeder, but I would guess that it was the latter and unless it's an aneurysm, there's not much they can do to stop it. For aneurysms, they can insert a wire that coils itself when it's extended from the catheter and that displaces the blood in the space, keeping it from rupturing.

That's a bummer. I loved that show and he was my favorite captain, (with Sig and the Northwestern a close second). But he was a chain smoker with an extremely high stress job, it was just a matter of time.

You know, you're right. It's silly to think you can smoke like that and be healthy or have the foundation in health to help you get past other ailments.
