Can Yamaha RX-V2200 handle 1080i signals?

I have a Yamaha RX-V2200 (6 years old). Recently connected my HD cable (Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD-PVR) through the receiver's component inputs (no HDMI) to my HD TV. The picture was awful (high contrast, too bright) and could not be corrected by the TV's picture settings. When the HD-PVR is connected directly to the TV the picture is fine. Does the RX-V2200's technology support 1080i?

Welcome to the forum!

Well, I'll get the discussion going, but I'll admit up front that I'm not sure. Basically, I'm just bumping your post to see if anyone who knows can chime in. :) The manual for the RX-V2200 doesn't say anything about video resolution, so I started researching if the 60 MHz frequency response of the component video outputs on the RX-V2200 is sufficient. I haven't found any real agreement on that, yet.

One thing, though. It might be the second set of cables that you are using when you route the video through the receiver. Are you using component video cables (or video cables in general)?

think you will get 480 only with component cables...I would go direct from cable box to tv...added advantage of being able to watch tv without use of receiver...

Tried different cables. No improvement

Thanks for the suggestion.

Tried patching the three together through the receiver with two sets of component cables that worked when connecting directly between HD-PVR and HDTV. No improvement.

Signal level specs are

TV input is Y: 1.0 V [p-p]
Pb,Pr: +/- 0.35 V [p-p]
Yamaha Out is Y: 1.0 V [p-p]
Pb: 0.7 V [p-p]
Pr: 0.7 V [p-p]

Just got a message from Yamaha

"Video bandwidth is limited to 60 Mhz on the RX-V2200 and these type of errors are common."

Regards,

Yamaha Canada

Looks like I am in the market for a new receiver.

60MHz is enough bandwidth to do 1080i, I would guess it's a problem with the receiver.
