Can we have a rational discussion about guns and why the typical arguments for gun control and its implementation won't work?

The standard rifle is no more dangerous than the AR15?
Where did you get that idea? I wrote (direct quote) "The AR is no more dangerous than many other rifles (unless someone installs a bump stock), but they are more popular and apparently, more scary looking.".

Lots of rifle calibers are able to take down larger targets than an AR-15, but a well-placed shot from almost any gun will kill.

I also wrote about peoples' obsession with guns- why didn't you twist that into something I didn't mean, while you were at it?

They never should've allowed the semi-automatics into the market.

My idea was to reduce deaths. Therefore semi's are not the same as standards. Now if you want to say they're here to stay, I get it. But practical, not really.

So, still nothing about getting people to stop using them, acquiring them illegally and people being careless with them?

Saw a report about gun thefts in Milwaukee- more than 1100 were stolen last year and >75% were unsecured, in cars. How would eliminating semiautomatic guns change that when the idiots did nothing more to secure their guns than put them in glove boxes and under seats? If semi-auto are made illegal, people will just buy revolvers.

I showed the approximate number of guns vs gun deaths, using one gun/death as the example- it's a very small percentage of guns that are involved- take out the carelessly stored guns and lots of deaths will be prevented. Take out the guns stolen from homes and the same thing will happen- same result from taking out the guns in the possession of felons from the data.

As I have posted, I don't see a reason for so many guns but the problem is people. Kids beat the 73 year old man, the man who shot 10 people in the NYC subway has said "the system failed him" because of his mental health issues and so fat in 2022, 254 have been shot, 64 died in mass shootings. Chicago alone is on pace for 600 homicides this year and they have some of the most strict gun laws in the US. Why is this happening? People. They have stopped valuing life, don't want to obey laws, they don't care.

I didn't say it would stop them. I'm saying by manufacturing less of these semi's then hopefully at some point in the future it will reduce casualties. If a school shooter walks in with a two-barrel or six-shooter, well that's still an improvement over a semi with however many comes in a mag. And if they bring more guns/bullets with them, well hopefully they have to work a little harder for it.

Reducing semi's is a win-win to me. They were never meant for civilians to begin with.

The Uvalde debacle wouldn't have been as bad if the damned officers had some balls and if Crimo's dad had a brain, that probably wouldn't have happened, either.

You might want to look at the statistics- AR-style weapons are used in a very small percentage of killings and one reason is that people aren't as accurate with pistols, even though tens of thousands are killed with those.

What's your preference, bolt action? A bolt action rifle with a magazine can kill just as easily, but it can't spray as much lead as fast. The point is- if people didn't suck, we wouldn't have these shootings.

Reducing automatic anything.

People are opportunists- if something is made available, they'll choose or do whatever they want or is available. That fact seems to be missed by anyone who wants to control people.

SEMI-automatic!

I'm not saying they're needed, I'm saying that banning them won't do as much as you & others think.

Incentivizing states, education, public service messages, etc. Less of them. That would be a good thing.

Oh, yeah, public messages will help.

BTW- a 2 year old was shot & killed here, yesterday. A woman has been arrested. That makes two three year olds and a two year old shot in a week, with two dead. None of them would have been spared if AR-style weapons had been banned.

MKE is on pace to set another homicide record and almost none were shot with rifles. You and other gun banners are barking up the wrong tree.

Not gun banning. Less semi's within the context of gun amendment rights. Not more, and not the status quo.

BTW, the gun "collector" is about the dumbest hobby in history. Even the porn collector is more respectable. Not too many people dying from a DVD or strangulation from a love doll LOL.:) Seriously, gun ownership is suppose to be this modest, humble thing. You have shotguns for clay shooting and deer hunting etc. Or shooting beer cans out in the sticks with some buds. Target practice to keep your skills up to date. Obviously the six-shooter for self-defense. You own a handful of them or so. But it wasn't meant to be this trophy collecting thing. (Wow, look at all my guns!) Heck, you can put the bucks head on your wall.

not sure if your serious or just kidding ? Regardless, while I don't consider myself a 'collector' I do own a rather serious collection of firearms, all of which have a purpose. Since the 'gun' has such a storied history it's only natural to have collectors.

One for the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, basement, attic, garage, dining room in case someone interrupts your peaceful meal. The glove compartment, and of course the office work drawer. There's ones for smaller prey, larger, gotta have the semi automatic when fishing shark or orca or the fast bird. You can never have enough.

50+ collection? Maybe 10 are used.

You forgot the very old dude’s crotch where he put a gun to compensate as Viagra don’t work on him. Puts a different spin on having a boner.

It’s just an image in your head, of course, but now you can’t unsee it. o_O

Be interesting to know how many guns owners think are a sufficient amount? Can't be more than 10 I imagine.
