Can someone help me find the best DVD Player?

For under $60 at either Best Buy or Circuit City? They all look about the same. I just need a filler for now until BD and HD Players drop.

At $60, they pretty much ARE the same.

HD DVD and BD players have already dropped in price significantly. Expect to see HD DVD players drop even more as the format is now in jeopardy (meaning I wouldn't buy one of them).

Just chose one from a reputable manufacturer that has the features you like. Panasonic makes a good dvd player, and you can find upscaling players that use HDMI too if that sounds like something you would be interested in.

Yep, I'd stick with the big names when it comes to under $100 players, to be on the safe side. When it comes to the cheaper ones, Panasonic is my first choice also.

I've had good luck with Toshiba in the el-cheapo dvd-player category.

Be careful. Some upscaling players stretch 4:3 images (a la TNT, TBS, History, A&E) to fill a 16:9 screen whether you want them to or not. Philips is most notorious for doing this.

I would suggest spending more and getting a quality DVD player. The Oppo Digital is the best bang for the buck player available.

Spending less really lowers the quality of video possible via DVD.

You can get a Toshiba A3 right now with 9 HD DVD's for $125. That's a no brainer. Excellent DVD upconversion, 9 movies in HD. You can't get 9 decent regular DVD's for $65, the cost over a mediocre upconverter.

If you must, I recommend the Panasonic 5892 or the Samsung HD1080.

Do you not have a DVD at the moment?

I have 2 cheap dvd players, one is a toshiba that does divx and the other is a pioneer I got from crutchfield 5 years ago. The pioneer is miles ahead of the toshiba in build quality and speed but other than that they are the exact same thing. If you can find a deal on a pioneer I say go for it as they make very solid stuff.
