Can I use my DVI/HDMI cable on an HDMI Switch?

I have an OPPO 971H connected to a Sanyo PLV-Z4. They are connected using a DVI/HDMI cable, as the OPPO has a DVI output and the Sanyo has an HDMI input. I would like to add an HD-DVD player, using an HDMI switch to keep the OPPO for standard DVD upconversion. Can I use the DVI/HDMI cable -- it's installed through the ceiling and will be difficult to replace. I assume I would have to use an adapter to convert the DVI end of the cable to HDMI to match the output of the switch -- would I lose any picture resolution?

Yes, you can use an DVI-HDMI cable no problem, and you will not lose any resolution. DVI is basically HDMI minus audio.
