Okay where were we. I mailed in the damaged demo pair, and about a week later got a brand new pair. I spent most of the next week breaking them in about 12-14 hours a day at a mild volume; maybe 40 hours total. I used them lightly in the following days but nothing serious.
I had the fortune/misfortune of being home ill yesterday and had an opportunity to really crank them up. A percussionist at heart, I played Der Trommler from Rush's R30 album. I generally don't really care for this song, in spite of my affinity for drums. I will say that changed yesterday. I really have to turn the dial on the Denon to start getting some real juice into these speakers, but when I do, strap in. It was like being right there, captive audience to Neal Peart. The bass kicks were so solid and substantial, something I've never heard in a speaker before. Of course, not that I've ever had anything like these 10.2s before. Definitely had a few of those breathtaking moments where something about what you're listening to is just right.
I'd love more punch at lower volume, I presume a higher powered amp will get me there, but I'm in no hurry - when the right one presents itself, great. Until then I'm extremely satisfied with the decision to get involved with the Wharfedales.
