Hi all, I have had my M80v2 for about 6 weeks or so , maybe 8. First off, the vinyl on the standard versions is not too bad at all, its not fantastic but looks quite good and no where near what some people have claimed,i.e., peeling off etc..secondly, if you wish you can upgrade to a higher quality vinyl finish or for alot more money to custom veneers which look outstanding.
Soundwise, I switched from Klipsch RF83 to the M80's and for half the money these Axioms sound so much better(to me) its incredible. They easily have as much bass without the booming but the imaging and soundstage is simply to die for, course my gear helps too! The detail one hears now makes me get goose bumps, the slam of the kick drum and smack of the snare is just awesome.
The finnish of the speakers is fully satisfactory but not gorgeous by any stretch. I bought these for the sound and the finnish is one area they cut corners to keep the price down while able to deliver stunning sound. If you require pretty speakers, I would suggest you get the standard speaks and make sure they are right for you( I'll bet you keep them!) and if you really love them, Axiom will be happy to exchange them for custom made units. (you cannot return custom orders)
As a side note, ensure your amp/AVR can deliver 4 ohm loads at high power settings, alot cannot do this. Also, the 80's require lots of power to do them justice, they love power. A 100wpc AVR will not cut the mustard regardless of what some may say, will it work? perhaps but not to the level that they deserve, just ask the experts at Axiom.
Enjoy!
