Haven't heard myself but maybe someone else has. How about the Monoprice K-BAS speakers that were reviewed?
Very nice speakers, but they do exceed his budget a bit. They definitely wouldn't need any help from a subwoofer on chamber music though.

Do you have any recommendation for a pair that is $400?
I think I can stretch my budget a bit more.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on where you are coming from), I have not been able to find a speaker that outperforms the AA's for $500 or less.
Here are more comments on this including a direct comparison of the AA's against the Ascend CMT-340:

Despite the specifications showing equivalent bass (which are likely done using different methods), the AA's unquestionably offer deeper bass. That was a surprise as the size of the 340's along with the dual 6.5" drivers led me to expect more bass from the 340's.

Thats actually a good thing!
I guess I don't have to worry about paying more.

Those actually came to my attention recently. It is interesting how Monoprice is starting to make higher end products such as the Monolith amplifier. With the heftier price tags, they will have to eventually change their name to Polyprice.
