Budget friendly amp

I have a really old mitzubishi amplifier and Im looking for to upgrade, nothing fancy I just need 200watts to power a pair of Sony bookshelf speakers
(SS-B1000) and a 12" MTX subwoofer.

I doubt you need too.

A speaker upgrade would be a better aim.

well, the speakers are perfect for my living room's size and besides I live in an apartment and I can't really make too much noise...I know many here will think my Small speakers are worthless but all I need is a new amp, it's so old that I can't find any info about it

200 watts? You're kidding me, right?

For those speakers, 100 wpc is more than sufficient and old does not necessarily a bad thing. I get some amazing sounds from a 35+ year-old receiver. ...and Mitsu aways did put out a very good unit.

Is that MTX a car subwoofer? What type enclosure is it in? Pease don't say a car enclosure. Do you have a crossover ?

...aren't you the guy that boosts the treble control?

Im not a super Audioholic but I like my music clear and crisp...

The link you posted is right..those are the speakers I have and they're currently being driven by and old 100w amp which like I said before Im looking to upgrade...
About the subwoofer, NO, is not a car one....it's a 12" 100w MTX anyway here's the model so maybe you can find something about it (PSBW101B)

I was told before that I could messed up my speakers if i get an amp that has more wattage than the speakers can take, is this true?
if you read the specs of the speakers they can only handle 120w each, what kind of amp do you recommend?

Let's start with the problem: what are you trying to achieve? 200W will allow you to get louder - which you are saying is not the problem?? If you don't like the sound you are getting, more power isn't going to solve that.

I use the laptop from my home office to store all my music digitally, so I hooked the computer to the amp which is connected to the speakers and the subwoofer...

A week after getting the speakers my tweeter went out, after calling Sony they asked me what kind of amp and what wattage I was using, the person told me it was because my amp can only output 50w per channel, so that was why my tweeter went out.
When I sent them to get serviced the technician told me that it was BS that my tweeter burn because I used the treble too high (he didn't know I used it high)..
So I wanna know what can I do?
Is a new amp with more wattage gonna help or not?

A tweeter was fried? That's is sad. Get yourself some better speakers.

What's your budget.

The Behringers might fit the bill. Believe me the upgrade will be awesome sound wise too.

I know you guys are "Audioholics" all the way, and maybe the speakers I use or the wattage I need is a joke for some of you, the speakers are really good, and TBH I can't have something really LOUD cuz I live in an apartment you know....

Now budget for the amp...????? you gonna laugh...anyway......maybe $100 to $150, that's all

What I don't get is that your current amp is powerful enough to have cooked your current speakers because of your listening preferences and you want to #1 get a more powerful amp and # 2 for a ridiculously low price. It just doesn't make sense and then you say that we are Audioholics all the way.

IT's you that seem to have a problem taking this seriously.

You've gleaned a wealth of good information that's taken years of experience to learn in your short time here.

It's kinda like radio shack. You have questions? We have answers. But there's no guarantee you're gonna like them.

The repair guy who said your amp didn't put out enough power may be correct - for the level that you were trying to listen at. More likely than not, you are clipping and that will fry speakers. More power will probably help, but if you are feeding the speakers poor quality MP3s (low bitrate, bad recordings, etc...) then more power isn't going to change anything.

For around $100-150 you can get a decent stereo receiver (not an amplifier) from Harman Kardon or Onkyo, most likely last year's model on closeout or a refurb. That will be more than enough power for those speakers.

well I use it all the way up...I know it's my fault, but do you know any other way I can make my music sound crisp and clear?

Any suggestions on how to set up the EQ?
