Sounds like the 4k stuff is of minimal use so far? Why not just look on the used market?

Some stuff just sticks in my head. I need to watch more of the original series as the Space Seed episode is the one I've seen the most and sticks out to me. I've watched the movies many more times than the shows. "Don't believe them, don't trust them!" "They're dying." "Let them die! Has it occurred to you that this crew is due to stand down in three months? We've done our bit for King and Country. You should have trusted me."
"I'm a Doctor, not a "fill in the blank"". One of my favs is I'm a Doctor, not a bricklayer, from the one where McCoy is treating a rock like creature by filling in wounds with cement and a trowel.

Not up on the newer TiVo models. If all are networked, can you not see the other units when looking into My Shows on one unit?

I may do that. Slightly older models might be more likely to have the inputs I want. But still need to know what features I need, the HDCP 2.2 I' m pretty sure I need. I'd guess anything with HDCP 2.2 will have the other features I could use, HDR, Atmos etc.

Yeah, you can see shows on the other Tivos (look at "devices" under my shows.) Depending on what Tivo OS you are running can transfer between them also. And/or stream, except for the REALLY old models. So I can watch shows that are on my non 4K Tivos through the 4K Tivos and they will upconvert. However have to consider the source, if cable, compressed 720P or worse, if OTA halfway decent 1080i/720P uncompressed MPEG2.

Outside of sources like a bluray with the latest/greatest 4k needs, why would you need HDCP2.2 in the avr? You could get such a bluray capable of such directly connected to both tv and avr (for audio). Personally I get along fine without, but I'm still happy with 1080p content and no Atmos....

Well mostly for possible future use. Since buying a new device might as well get one that could have features I might want some day. Yeah, I could live with my non 4K Onkyo, if it was 4K with HDCP 2.2 would be perfect, regardless of newer audio type things. Not sure how to connect 4K bluray to TV and receiver. My 4K Tivos I connect to TV direct but have to use optical to receiver for audio which is not as good as HDMI. Have not tried everything but looks like best I get is Dolby Digital with optical.

Currently I use a 4k capable bluray player (Oppo 203) but only with 1080p plasma with an avr capable of some 4k switching. Without a 4k tv it's a moot point for me.

I still have my Samsung 3D 58" plasma in another room (not 4K). If I get new 4K receiver will probably use the Onkyo with the Plasma. 3D sure died out quick, at least home 3D. I could have lived without 4K TV really, only reason I got was Black Friday deal on the 70" Vizio a couple years ago, like $600 after all rebates etc.

Yeah I have a 59PN8000D and a 59PN7000D and no reason to upgrade with current offerings IMO.

You know, with so many dropping the HDMI input in the front of the unit as well these days, I think the cheapest new option with all of the inputs needed is the Marantz 5014 at about a thousand bucks. Now, if you can live without composite and component inputs and can even live without the HDMI input in the front of the unit, the Yamaha TSR-700 can be had at Costco for 400 bucks or less if on sale.
You know the Marantz is a possibilty, looks like can find used for $600 or so. More than $400, but quite a bit less than $1000 new. Since I am in no rush might be a consideration. Seems to have pretty much everything I want.

Seriously. Until they die even oled at higher resolution/hdr means little to me. Not at my distance from screens or videophilenessssss.
My Samsung did develop a problem. Almost right after warranty expired. When there is a white/light color in the picture during playback of a show or whatever, it has a purpleish color where the white is, upper right of screen. I looked it up, not fixable, anyone who got the problem during warranty they would just replace. Still usable, don't notice unless there is light color in upper right. Still have some 3D movies to watch, and picture is better than my 4K Vizio, at least to me. Uses a lot of electricity though, and runs pretty hot, can almost turn off the furnace in winter if watching for extended period of time ;)

Hmm, I see some 4K Bluray players have 2 HDMI outputs so could connect one direct to TV and one to receiver for audio. That is nice, wish my Tivos had that. When I was looking into 4K Blurays I noticed the Oppos, seemed very expensive comparted to others. However when I read reviews I could see why, great units ;) Also checked my TV, only one of the 4 HDMI inputs is 2.0, the other three 1.4. So the receiver would be nice, connect to the one HDMI 2.0 input on TV and connect all my 4K devices to the receiver. Right now the three 4K Tivos connected to TV, only one shows 2160P when playing 4K movies through Vudu. Now I know why, the others are connected to HDMI 1.4 ports............... Not gonna buy a new TV ;)

Just FYI I got a used Yamaha TSR-7850 from one of the members here. Close to the TSR-700 you mentioned. And Costco sold out of both at this time. Very similar, the 700 seems to have HDMI 2.1. The 7850 has component and composite inputs, the 700 does not as far as I can see. But supposedly some issues with the 700 2.1 HDMI, so the 7850 is good for me. Almost everything I wanted, no HDMI on front and 5 HDMI inputs instead of 6 but good enough for now. You made some great recommendations, will still watch for a bargain used Marantz SR5014 but this should more than fill the bill for now. Thanks to all that contributed, I actually learned a lot more than just decent 4K receivers in my price range.

That Yamaha 7850 is a nice AVR, plus you got it at a good price. They where going for 399 I have seen it go for as low as 329 used refurbish. I have the Yamaha 7790 with full pre-outs but doesn't have Atoms or DTS-X so now it sits collecting dust. So I went with Yamahas RX-V6A got it from @AcuDefTechGuy, in two days at a price that beat Any other online price!

I was going to check with him too but this one just kinda fell into my lap. Does he sell used also? If so maybe the Marantz, eventually................. All good, was well worth the posting, got what I wanted, good price, and learned a lot to boot.

You really made a very nice deal on it. As good as Andrew is with his prices I don't believe even he could have beat what you paid. I like the OSD that it has plus it has a much better EQ set with it. Post up when you have some time playing around with it. Does it come with the setup mic? I should mention that 7850 was going for over $800 new.
