.....Gentleman, I have placed a couple of phone calls to try and ascertain more info as to the Bose 901's beginning with Series II and presently being on Series VI....(six, for you non-Romans)....I believe Series II through VI equalizers do the same basic function which is to add an 18 db boost to the highs and lows....I believe you can interchange any series equalizer to any series 901's....I also KNOW you can use a conventional eq with a HUGE smile configuration on the slides and NOT achieve what 2 901 eq's will accomplish....I used two Bose 901 eq's for what would have been at least 6 years with my Bose 1801 stereo amp using a Marantz 3300 pre-amp....I used one eq after the pre-amp, and one on a tape monitor of the Marantz 3300....the result was life for my tunes and people would come from all around to hear the system and raved about it....I didn't just dream this nor am I making it up....who are these guys in the white coats speaking in soothing tones moving slowly toward me?.....

....I'm tempted to go no further until someone tries 2 Bose 901 EQ's on at least one pair of 901's....shoot, this is work....your system is NOT going to explode and I suspect pissing on the drivers derives little.....

Here's the problem. There aren't many people here at Audioholics that would even consider owning 1 pair of 901's let alone 2 pairs!

I still don't know why you don't take NETGEEK's advice and try peeing on the drivers, it sure sounds like a good idea to me! But what do I know, I just worked for the enemy is all!

.....guys, the reason Bose doesn't post specs on the 901's is simple....they would be conceived as bad speakers right off the bat....they are cleaned up by being 89% reflected sound........the system I gave to my son-in-law a year ago was actually homemade....I took quality enclosures about the shape and size of Cornwalls, and loaded the box with Electro-Voice....I used their midrange driver that now runs about $125 on a metal bell up high in the box, and their 15 inch actually guitar woofer that was rated from 60 to 6000....cut at 4500 it gave the most wonderful low mids....here's the likening to Bose....for the tweeter, I had a quality Piezo tweet driver mounted on the end of an EV metal bell....I had it on an L-pad and ran it about 1/4....the metal bell with piezo driver was sitting lone by itself above the cabinet sitting on, truth, an upside-down empty fish food bucket about 18 inches tall....the sideways trumpet end of the bell was pointed more up than forward with the driver end sitting on the bucket....mercy, I had some great high cleanness and presence from that system....to point the tweet directly at you by taking away the old broken vcr tape that was holding it up, brought instant raspy and you wanted to grab your ears....but....reflected off the ceiling, it was Heaven....different dispersion rendering the nectar....that's what 901's do....two eq's in the mix for sure pleased me for a while.....

.....I agree, Die Hard Yammy, I am talking to guys who have a receiver with 5 or 7 channels and charge admission at the door with hot popcorn included....great surround systems are listed by many here....on that topic, you know where I fish....is a portion of these Martin Logans electrostatic?....appeared so....guys, I just thought there were people here who might want to improve their conventional stereo setup 901's....it would probably be prudent to bring this thread to a woah, or, some other aspects of Bose....I may just listen for awhile....dover......

.....yeah, my old system was stereo....the right tweet metal bell with piezo driver was sitting on two vcr and dvd sideways cabinets about the same height of 18 inches.......

.....and once again, my old homemade system I parted with a year ago, gave me heighth and stereo seperation width with the whole wall coming alive with instruments at different levels....just like that system I had back in the late 70's which I believe they still might make....I forget the name.....

.....Privateer, what made Hummingbird by Seales and Crofts special to me on my ex-Bose system was the bass guitar's presence and solid oscillations.....which started when I slowly raised the volume that first time with 2 Bose 901 eq's....let's let it lay for awhile....you're letting your head build a case instead of your ears.....

I think the whole point is here is that the Bose are not really capable of producing high-end sound. They sound "good" because of their enhanced midrange and their diffuse soundfield. If you desire this kind of stuff, I'm sure you could much better with some SETs and horn speakers and still end up with better, flatter frequency response as well a better experience. You seem to be in the "if it sounds good it's good" camp, but the argument against you, even if in the same realm of thinking, there are speakers for the same price that sound much better, even if they aren't actually high-fidelity (hi-fi in its true meaning).

.....great response....the voice of reason....the main point I have been trying to make is, it was a whole new ball game the first time I used 2 eq's, and you would have thought the same standing beside me.....let's let it lay....someone will try it and report....the 4 901's sound TIMES better with 2 eq's....not sure how many times, how would you measure something coming to life?....let's talk about bbq sauce or something......
