I said a good TL Joe!

Def Tech speakers are excellent. If they were not, I would not have been using them in my HT for the last 8 years without the slightest inclination to upgrade.

Joe-I'm not knocking Def Techs (they have a very good rep, particularly with movies), I have never heard them. But I assume that TLS Guy would mean a pair of TL speakers that would sound better with music AND movies. A pair of speakers that could, potentially, encompass all of your wants and needs. I'm not saying that they would, I just think perhaps that is what he was suggesting, overall.

Both of you have a way of making "little comments" that are not exactly mean, but get under people's skin every now and then. Take it with a grain of salt and look for the helpfulness in his post, he is quite knowledgeable, as are you. And he is very proud of his TL speakers as well, just as you are with your CA speakers.

Here is the rub.

Definitive Technology's engineers have developed, with the aid of a supercomputer at a major Eastern university, a new bass tuning program which basically duplicates the loading of a transmission line (in terms of extended bass response and ideal transient behavior) in a much more elegant and cost-effective cabinet construction. This from their literature.

The whole point of a good TL is to avoid the type of bass presentation you describe. The bass of a properly done TL is nothing like what you describe.

As I mentioned earlier, I am certain that my room is the issue, not the speakers. Every pair of speakers (and every sub) with a -3dB point lower than about 40Hz or so has the same issues in that room. The Def Techs sound flawless in my HT, which is in a different room.
You say a lot of things that make you seem knowledgeable, but when you put down Def Tech it undermines your credibility.

That may be, but there seem to be passive radiators in their towers. Passive radiators are not associated with TLs as I understand them.

I started with Voight quarter wave designs and the developments of Ralph West. This led to the work of Dr. Bailey at Radford and the developments by Fried and particularly John Wright. The work of the BBC with Jim Rogers and Peter Walker based on the developments mentioned is note worthy.

These developments were British, until the independent mathematical work of G.L. Auspurger and Martin King on the reverse tapered aperiodically damped lines.

As far as I know designs of that type that reach to the bottom of the last octave are the province of the DIY set, like myself currently.

I have considered it, but they are both too big for my limited space and too expensive.
Actually, I can get excellent bass from the DTs by placing them very far from the walls (2ft or more.) The only issue with this is that it reduces the space between them, which compromises soundstage somewhat (and they look a bit obtrusive that far out in the room.)

Has anyone come across AAD M Series 5.1 speaker set comprising M-5T, M-5C, M-10S, M-5X. Anybody has any experience with these? My vendor recommended this set for my HT setup. Appreciate any info.
